When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Lulu is a relatively modern residential area with mid-rise apartment blocks and standard flats where the ceiling void is tight and headroom limited by the building's practical design. Air distribution through narrow hallways and rooms here needs careful study of the run path, and condensate drainage must go to a known outlet or outside carefully to avoid dampening the adjacent walls. Some older suspended ceilings cannot bear the weight of a heavy indoor unit.

Al Lulu lies in north Jeddah, a modern residential area of mid-rise blocks and standard-sized flats.

Most Al Lulu flats have a suspended ceiling with limited height, and the indoor unit is usually mounted in a hallway or bathroom.

The AC setup in Al Lulu

  1. 1

Indoor unit in hallway or bathroom

Placing the indoor unit in the hallway or bathroom keeps it clear of living spaces and reduces noise in bedrooms and lounges.

  2. 2

    Air distribution through flexible ducts

Flexible ducts run from the indoor unit across the suspended ceiling to air outlets in each room.

  3. 3

    Condensate drain to external outlet

The drain pipe slopes steadily from the unit to an external outlet away from the flat's walls and neighbouring properties.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Lulu

  1. 1

Open the suspended ceiling to check available space

We need to see the actual ceiling height and beam strength before choosing where to place the indoor unit.

  2. 2

Mark the condensate drain route to outside the flat

Show us where the drain pipe can safely exit, either to a known drain point or through the outer wall.

  3. 3

Coordinate with building management on outdoor unit placement

Confirm that building management approves the outdoor unit location on the balcony or facade before the visit date.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

How do you place the indoor unit in a flat with a low ceiling?

We survey the ceiling height and available space first, then choose a location in the hallway or bathroom where it does not intrude on the rooms. We confirm the ceiling can bear the unit's weight before fixing it.

Who should be present during installation in a shared flat building?

We coordinate with the flat owner and seek building management approval for the outdoor unit placement, especially if it goes on a shared balcony or facade.

Condensate from the indoor unit causes dampness in the bathroom, how do you fix this?

We run the drain pipe at a gentle slope to a known drain point, or take it outside the flat safely away from adjacent walls.

The old suspended ceilings look weak, can they support an AC unit?

We inspect the ceiling and joists first and assess their strength. If the ceiling is weak, we propose additional bracing or relocate the unit to a stronger spot.
