Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Mawj

In Al Mawj, south Jeddah, modern apartment blocks need central AC to cope with high temperatures and coastal humidity. Alrabih's team carefully positions the indoor unit and manages the drain so no moisture traces appear on shared ceilings.

  • Tight ceiling
  • Sealed drain

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Mawj is a modern coastal residential zone with high-density apartment blocks, and humidity here is much higher than inland districts due to sea proximity and salt air. Central AC installation must account for extra heat load and year-round humidity, and drain management requires special care because excess moisture causes rapid mould growth in ducts and coils. Units here need more frequent maintenance than other areas to prevent mould and salt deposits building up on the heat exchanger.

Al Mawj lies in south Jeddah near the coast, a district of modern high-density apartment blocks under constant marine humidity.

Relative humidity in Al Mawj exceeds 70 per cent most days, meaning the evaporator coil and ducts need cleaning more frequently than average.

The AC setup in Al Mawj

  1. 1

Compact indoor unit for tight flats

In Al Mawj's dense flats, we select small indoor units that fit tight ceilings without compromising cooling capacity.

  2. 2

Insulated ducts to prevent ceiling condensation

Foam-insulated ducts reduce cooling loss and prevent moisture condensation on the ceiling from the high external humidity.

  3. 3

Enhanced drain system for excess moisture

We use larger-diameter drain pipes with a steeper slope, plus water traps to block humid air from backing into the ducts and coils.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Mawj

  1. 1

Check if wiring can handle the extra load

Central AC units need robust power supply. Confirm your electrical panel can handle an additional load of roughly 10 to 15 amperes.

  2. 2

Identify the outdoor unit location on your balcony or wall

Choose a balcony or external wall location away from direct salt wind if possible, with good airflow clearance around the unit.

  3. 3

    Coordinate access through shared corridors

Tell building management about the installation date and make sure shared corridors and lifts are free of other activities on visit day.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

In humid Al Mawj, does central AC develop mould quickly?

Yes, coastal humidity raises mould risk. We recommend quarterly filter and coil maintenance, and duct cleaning at least twice yearly.

Does sea salt damage the outdoor unit?

Yes, sea salt accelerates corrosion on the outdoor heat exchanger. We choose a sheltered location where possible, recommend a protective cover in summer, and regular salt rinsing of the coils.

My Al Mawj flat is very compact, how do you balance the air flow?

We fit adjustable dampers in the distribution vents and size the ducts based on each room's dimensions to ensure balanced flow without cold or hot spots.

In a tight flat, where does the condensate drain to?

We route the line to an external floor drain or a sealed indoor basin away from shared walls, ensuring a consistent slope to prevent water pooling.
