Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Zumurrud

In Al Zumurrud, north Jeddah, installing central AC in apartments needs careful planning because ceiling voids are tight and indoor-unit space is limited. Alrabih's team picks the right spot in the corridor or bathroom, runs the condensate drain without damp, and delivers quiet air to every room.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Zumurrud comprises modern residential towers with multiple floors, each flat having tight space and ceilings already occupied by electrical and water lines. Central AC here requires careful ductwork routing to avoid dampness or leaks, and the indoor unit must be positioned with soundproofing in mind so noise does not carry to neighbouring flats.

Al Zumurrud sits in north Jeddah, a modern district of tall residential blocks with adjoining flats in multi-storey towers.

Most flats here have standard ceilings at 2.6 metres with ductwork running through a very tight suspended ceiling void.

The AC setup in Al Zumurrud

  1. 1

Indoor unit in corridor or bathroom

The corridor or bathroom offers the best placement for the indoor unit in Al Zumurrud flats because the ceiling can support it and space is not lost from main rooms.

  2. 2

Ducts hidden in the suspended ceiling

The ductwork runs entirely through the tight suspended ceiling on its way to bedrooms, living areas and the kitchen.

  3. 3

External condensate drain via balcony or wall

The condensate line is routed outside via the balcony or a small opening in the external wall to keep interior spaces dry.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Zumurrud

  1. 1

Tell us about existing pipe runs

Before the visit, let us know where electrical, water and heating pipes run through the ceiling and walls so we avoid cutting them.

  2. 2

    Confirm which rooms need cooling

Send us a simple sketch of your flat showing which rooms and areas need cooling so we can design the ductwork route accurately.

  3. 3

Ensure access to balcony or external wall

Make sure your balcony or external wall is safely accessible for running the condensate line and mounting the outdoor unit.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

How do you fit the indoor unit in a flat with a low ceiling?

We place the indoor unit in the corridor or bathroom where the ceiling can take the weight and does not reduce ceiling height in living areas. We confirm no existing pipes are damaged before installation.

Will the AC's condensate drain cause damp in the flat below?

We run the condensate line carefully to the nearest safe drainage point, either via the balcony or through the external wall, so it does not drip onto the flat below or the building face.

My flat shares walls with neighbours, will they hear the AC?

Sound travels easily between adjoining flats, so we route the ductwork away from shared walls and fit acoustic insulation around the indoor unit.

Can you run ducts between flats or through tight spaces?

Each flat needs its own separate system, and ductwork cannot be shared between units for regulatory and operational reasons. We agree the best routing within your flat's boundaries before starting.
