Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Old Airport

In Old Airport, central AC installation in flats navigates mixed challenges because the district contains older buildings with roomy voids and modern apartment blocks with compressed structures. Alrabih's team assesses each site individually and selects the system that suits the building's actual frame.

  • Tight ceiling
  • Sealed drain
  • Quiet running

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Old Airport is a transitional zone in central Jeddah blending relatively older residential buildings from decades past with some modern apartment blocks built recently, creating major differences in void designs and structures. Older buildings here often have spacious ceiling voids allowing a full central system, while newer ones may need a hybrid solution or retention of separate units. Working with building owners and obtaining accurate plans is essential to determine the best option before installation begins.

Old Airport sits in central Jeddah, blending older residential buildings with modern apartment blocks featuring different void types and structural styles.

Half the buildings here are older with spacious voids, half are newer with tight voids, meaning no one-size-fits-all solution applies across the district.

The AC setup in Old Airport

  1. 1

Full central system in spacious older buildings

Older buildings with spacious voids accommodate a full central system distributing cool air through ducts to all rooms.

  2. 2

Hybrid approach in compact modern buildings

Modern buildings may benefit from a small central unit for corridors and communal areas paired with separate splits for large rooms.

  3. 3

Outdoor unit per flat or shared between two units

The outdoor unit may sit on a private balcony or be shared with the neighbouring flat depending on design and building agreement.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Old Airport

  1. 1

Confirm your building's age and structural features

Tell us when your building was built and whether it is older or newer, describe the ceiling voids, so we can assess the right options.

  2. 2

Obtain building plans from the management

Request copies of your unit and building plans to map existing pipes and available voids before the visit.

  3. 3

Confirm balcony and ceiling void access

Check that your balcony or shared roof is safe for the outdoor unit, and that ceiling voids are safely accessible.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My building is old with roomy voids, does that mean installation is easy and fast?

Spacious voids ease planning and routing, but the timeframe depends on flat size, room count and unit distances, which we confirm precisely after the site visit.

The new building next to me has tight voids, is the solution completely different from my older building?

Yes, each building has its own structure. Older buildings may allow a full central system, while newer ones may need a hybrid approach, and we will recommend the best option for your building after assessment.

Humidity and salt air near the old airport affect my unit, does this impact the central system?

Yes, high humidity and salt air accelerate wear on metal parts and the outdoor unit. We use corrosion-resistant materials in critical areas and recommend a regular maintenance schedule.

Buildings vary so much between old and new here, how do I choose the right solution for my flat?

We will conduct a full site survey, examine voids and structure, discuss your needs and budget, then offer a customised solution with a precise quotation.
