Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Sulaitah

In Sulaitah, north-east Jeddah, installing central AC in apartments calls for precise planning of tight ceilings and limited space. Alrabih's team chooses the indoor unit location and ductwork carefully to avoid moisture and noise between neighbouring flats.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Most Sulaitah flats are fairly modern and uniform in design, with standard drop ceilings and narrow corridors that limit duct options. Air must reach every room evenly, and condensate must drain away from foundations and shared walls with neighbours. This means the indoor unit location and outdoor outlet need advance planning to prevent moisture and noise issues.

Sulaitah is in north-east Jeddah, a fairly modern residential area with uniform flats and similar architectural layouts.

Most Sulaitah flats have drop ceilings at 2.6 m height, with corridors between 1.2 and 1.5 m wide.

The AC setup in Sulaitah

  1. 1

Indoor unit in corridor or bathroom

Sulaitah's tight drop ceiling makes the corridor or bathroom the best choice for the indoor unit, so it does not consume living space.

  2. 2

Ductwork hidden in the drop ceiling

Ducts run through the tight space above the drop ceiling, with distribution vents in each room and corridor.

  3. 3

Condensate drain toward external outlet or bathroom

Condensate pipes slope safely toward the external outlet or bathroom sink, away from shared walls with neighbours.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Sulaitah

  1. 1

Confirm safe access to the drop ceiling

Verify that the corridor or bathroom allows the drop ceiling to be opened and the unit mounted safely, with no obstacles or electrical wires in the way.

  2. 2

Confirm outdoor unit location on balcony or exterior wall

Tell us where the balcony or exterior wall for the outdoor unit sits, and confirm it is reachable without electrical wiring complications.

  3. 3

Coordinate with building management or neighbours

If the installation affects shared areas or walls with neighbours, confirm approval from building management or neighbours before the appointment.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

The flat is modern but the drop ceiling is low, can you still fit central AC?

Yes, we position the indoor unit carefully in the corridor or bathroom where the low ceiling affects living space least, and ensure air spreads evenly through all rooms.

The building has moisture issues from shared walls, how do you protect the condensate lines?

We run the condensate pipes on a safe slope toward the external outlet, and choose the route that avoids foundations and shared walls with neighbours.

The flat faces the street, where do you place the outdoor unit to avoid noise?

We mount the outdoor unit away from neighbours' windows where possible, and on vibration-absorbing brackets to minimise noise.

How many ceiling vents do I need for even air distribution in the flat?

It depends on the flat's size and layout, but we typically fit vents in each room and main corridor to ensure balanced airflow and avoid cold or warm spots.
