Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Taiba

In Taiba, north-east Jeddah, fitting central AC in apartments faces unique challenges because buildings are newer and flats are larger. Alrabih's team carefully designs the ductwork to cool multi-room units while keeping energy use and noise low.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Taiba comprises relatively newer tall residential buildings with spacious flats and more bedrooms than other northern districts. Ceilings are slightly higher and ceiling voids are more generous, but ductwork design must still balance cooling large areas with minimising heat loss and ensuring even temperature distribution across every room.

Taiba is in north-east Jeddah, a district of modern contemporary residential blocks with spacious flats and open layouts.

Most Taiba flats are three or four-bedroom, and suspended ceilings offer adequate space for main duct runs.

The AC setup in Taiba

  1. 1

    Ducts distributed to multiple bedrooms

Taiba's spacious flats need strong main ducts branching evenly to each bedroom and living area.

  2. 2

Indoor unit sized for the larger area

The indoor unit is chosen based on your flat's total area to ensure adequate cooling capacity for all rooms.

  3. 3

    Centralised safe external drainage

The condensate line from the indoor unit runs as one main line safely outside via the balcony or a secure opening.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Taiba

  1. 1

Provide a detailed floor plan with measurements

A sketch showing your flat's dimensions, room locations and furniture placement helps us find the best spots for the indoor unit and ductwork.

  2. 2

Tell us your cooling needs for each room

Does each room need equal cooling or do you prefer different temperatures in bedrooms versus living areas? This affects damper design.

  3. 3

Confirm balcony and external wall access

Your balcony or external wall must be safe and accessible for fitting the outdoor unit and running the condensate line.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat is very large, will central AC cool every room evenly?

Yes, if the ductwork is designed correctly. We space the air outlets so each room receives equal cooling, and use dampers to control airflow to each zone.

Can I have separate thermostats for different rooms?

Yes, we can fit an advanced control system allowing separate temperature settings for each zone, but the extra cost depends on the number of areas and control type. Send us the details on WhatsApp.

Our building has higher ceilings, does that affect cooling efficiency?

Higher ceilings require a slightly more powerful outdoor unit to push cool air up effectively, but this does not significantly raise cost if the design is sound. We select the right capacity after inspecting your flat.

Can I add a second cooling zone later if needed?

We design ductwork with future expansion in mind if you wish to add a second zone later. But this depends on your outdoor unit's size and expandability, which we discuss with you before installation.
