When the filter needs attention

  1. 1

Airflow from the grilles has dropped

When the filter fills with dust the blower works harder to pull air through it, and less reaches the rooms. In Jeddah, dust and humidity combine and block the filter faster than most people expect.

  2. 2

    Dust rings around the diffusers

Grey rings around the grilles mean the air is carrying what it should not. Usually the filter is no longer doing its job, or air is bypassing it through a gap in the frame and reaching the room unfiltered.

  3. 3

Coil freezes or AHU keeps stopping

A common cause of a frozen coil is a clogged filter that cuts airflow across the coil, dropping evaporator pressure until moisture freezes on it. If the unit runs then stops, or air comes out warm, the filter is the first thing worth checking.

Who it's for

  • Living in a villa and noticing dust on furniture

We check the filters on all central AC units in the villa and confirm each filter seats properly against its frame so unfiltered air does not reach the rooms.

  • Managing a commercial building with weak airflow complaints

We inspect the AHU filters across the building, identify which are blocked or bypassing air at the frame, then clean or replace each one according to its type.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Tell us your unit type

WhatsApp a photo of the central unit or AHU, its location and your district, so we know the filter type and where to find it before the visit.

  2. 2

    Filter and frame check

The technician inspects the filter and judges how blocked it is, then checks that it seats squarely against the frame so no unfiltered air slips past into the main airstream.

  3. 3

    Clean or replace

A washable filter is cleaned and left to dry fully before going back in. A disposable one is replaced with a size that fits the frame precisely, because an undersized filter leaves a gap air will always find.

  4. 4

    Post-clean check

After the filter is back in we run the unit and check airflow at the grilles and that the coil face carries no compacted dust slowing heat transfer.

What sets this district apart

Al Ajwad is a developed residential area in east Jeddah with diverse villa sizes and apartment blocks on moderate plots, featuring wide streets and modern urban design. Most buildings have central AC systems covering entire residential wings or multiple flats together, and the eastern location, winds and dust from the surrounding environment increase the need for regular filter cleaning.

Al Ajwad sits in east Jeddah, a modern residential area of villas and apartment blocks on moderate plots.

Most Al Ajwad buildings have a central AC system serving multiple residential units from one central filter.

The AC setup in Al Ajwad

  1. 1

Central system with one filter for multiple units

Most Al Ajwad apartment blocks have one central air handling unit with one filter serving multiple flats or residential wings.

  2. 2

Long distribution ducts covering wide areas

Al Ajwad ducts stretch across wide areas, meaning the filter is responsible for very large volumes of air.

  3. 3

    Outdoor units on exposed roofs

Outdoor units on exposed roofs face winds and dust, increasing the particle load from outside air entering the system.

Before the visit

Tell us about the last filter cleaning

Tell us when the filter was last cleaned and its current type, so we can decide if replacement is needed instead of cleaning.

  2. 2

Confirm the location of the central unit and access to it

Tell us where the air handling unit is located and whether it can be safely accessed without obstacles.

  3. 3

Prepare power and lighting for inspection

Ensure the unit location is well lit and has safe power access so we can inspect the filter and system easily.

FAQ

Questions about Central AC air filters

What is the difference between a washable and a disposable filter?

A washable filter has a rigid frame with reusable mesh; it is cleaned with water and put back. A disposable one is compressed paper or fibre that is discarded when full. Both must match the frame dimensions precisely, and the technician will confirm which type fits your unit on site.

Can a clogged filter push up the electricity bill?

Yes. When a blocked filter resists airflow the blower runs under higher load, and the compressor runs longer because cooling does not reach the rooms efficiently. Cleaning the filter is the simplest step that reduces consumption without touching any other part of the system.

How does Jeddah dust affect a central AC filter?

Jeddah combines fine airborne dust, salt from the sea and high humidity. Moist dust sticks to filter fibres and forms a denser layer than dry dust does, which means the filter needs more attention than in drier climates. Regular inspection is the only reliable way to know its actual condition.

If the rooms cool slowly, is cleaning the filter enough?

A clogged filter is a common cause of slow cooling but not the only one. After cleaning and refitting we check airflow and air temperature at the grilles. If cooling is still slow there may be an issue with the coil, the blower or something else in the unit, and that calls for a full central AC service visit.

Does the right filter vary from one AHU to another?

Yes. Frame dimensions and depth vary between units, and some AHUs hold multiple filters in a single bank. A filter smaller than the frame leaves a gap that air will always bypass without being filtered. For this reason the technician measures the frame on site and confirms the correct size before cleaning or replacing.

Al Ajwad is on the east side, do winds and dust affect the filter more?

Yes, easterly winds carry extra dust that enters with the outside air, putting more stress on the filter and requiring more frequent cleaning.

Our apartment block is six storeys, how does the height affect the filter?

Taller buildings need greater airflow to distribute air to all storeys, which increases pressure on the filter and the need for regular cleaning.

The block is surrounded by green areas and parks, does that affect the filter?

Parks and green spaces naturally reduce dust, but plant matter and organic particles can still enter the filter, so regular checks are advisable.

Al Ajwad has new construction sites nearby, how does building dust affect the filter?

Construction sites temporarily raise fine particles and dust, so we recommend checking the filter every two to three weeks during active building periods.
