When the filter needs attention

  1. 1

Airflow from the grilles has dropped

When the filter fills with dust the blower works harder to pull air through it, and less reaches the rooms. In Jeddah, dust and humidity combine and block the filter faster than most people expect.

  2. 2

    Dust rings around the diffusers

Grey rings around the grilles mean the air is carrying what it should not. Usually the filter is no longer doing its job, or air is bypassing it through a gap in the frame and reaching the room unfiltered.

  3. 3

Coil freezes or AHU keeps stopping

A common cause of a frozen coil is a clogged filter that cuts airflow across the coil, dropping evaporator pressure until moisture freezes on it. If the unit runs then stops, or air comes out warm, the filter is the first thing worth checking.

Who it's for

  • Living in a villa and noticing dust on furniture

We check the filters on all central AC units in the villa and confirm each filter seats properly against its frame so unfiltered air does not reach the rooms.

  • Managing a commercial building with weak airflow complaints

We inspect the AHU filters across the building, identify which are blocked or bypassing air at the frame, then clean or replace each one according to its type.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Tell us your unit type

WhatsApp a photo of the central unit or AHU, its location and your district, so we know the filter type and where to find it before the visit.

  2. 2

    Filter and frame check

The technician inspects the filter and judges how blocked it is, then checks that it seats squarely against the frame so no unfiltered air slips past into the main airstream.

  3. 3

    Clean or replace

A washable filter is cleaned and left to dry fully before going back in. A disposable one is replaced with a size that fits the frame precisely, because an undersized filter leaves a gap air will always find.

  4. 4

    Post-clean check

After the filter is back in we run the unit and check airflow at the grilles and that the coil face carries no compacted dust slowing heat transfer.

What sets this district apart

Al Baghdadiyah Al Gharbiyah is a relatively modern district with high-rise residential buildings and commercial towers using a shared central AC system, where one outdoor unit serves dozens of flats or offices. Heavy daily usage and air passing through long distribution ducts means the filter clogs faster than in split units, and weak airflow in rooms may appear before you notice the blockage clearly.

Al Baghdadiyah Al Gharbiyah sits in central Jeddah, a district of modern high-rise residential and commercial tower blocks.

Most buildings here have a ducted central AC system with a single filter serving all floors, and the outdoor unit sits on the building's roof.

The AC setup in Al Baghdadiyah Al Gharbiyah

  1. 1

Single central system for the entire building

The main filter sits in the plenum box on the roof or ground floor, serving all flats and offices from one unit.

  2. 2

Long distribution ducts across the floors

Filtered air travels through ductwork across each floor, so a sound filter is vital to avoid weak airflow in far corners.

  3. 3

    Outdoor unit on the roof

The compressor and condenser sit on the roof away from occupants, making service and cleaning straightforward without disturbing flats.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Baghdadiyah Al Gharbiyah

  1. 1

    Locate the main filter box

Tell us where the plenum box is located (usually roof or ground floor) and how to reach it before we visit.

  2. 2

Arrange team access to the roof or plant room

Make sure the roof door or main AC room will be open during the visit, or brief the building guard about our arrival.

  3. 3

Note the current filter size and type

If possible, send a photo of the current filter or tell us its size (e.g. 16×25×4) and type so the team arrives ready with a replacement if needed.

FAQ

Questions about Central AC air filters

What is the difference between a washable and a disposable filter?

A washable filter has a rigid frame with reusable mesh; it is cleaned with water and put back. A disposable one is compressed paper or fibre that is discarded when full. Both must match the frame dimensions precisely, and the technician will confirm which type fits your unit on site.

Can a clogged filter push up the electricity bill?

Yes. When a blocked filter resists airflow the blower runs under higher load, and the compressor runs longer because cooling does not reach the rooms efficiently. Cleaning the filter is the simplest step that reduces consumption without touching any other part of the system.

How does Jeddah dust affect a central AC filter?

Jeddah combines fine airborne dust, salt from the sea and high humidity. Moist dust sticks to filter fibres and forms a denser layer than dry dust does, which means the filter needs more attention than in drier climates. Regular inspection is the only reliable way to know its actual condition.

If the rooms cool slowly, is cleaning the filter enough?

A clogged filter is a common cause of slow cooling but not the only one. After cleaning and refitting we check airflow and air temperature at the grilles. If cooling is still slow there may be an issue with the coil, the blower or something else in the unit, and that calls for a full central AC service visit.

Does the right filter vary from one AHU to another?

Yes. Frame dimensions and depth vary between units, and some AHUs hold multiple filters in a single bank. A filter smaller than the frame leaves a gap that air will always bypass without being filtered. For this reason the technician measures the frame on site and confirms the correct size before cleaning or replacing.

How often should we change the filter in a central AC system?

It depends on the filter grade, building size and usage density, and we recommend checking every two months at least. Send us a photo on WhatsApp for a free assessment so we can advise whether cleaning or replacement is needed.

Does a clogged filter push up the electricity bill?

Yes, a clogged filter forces the compressor to work harder to pull air through, raising electricity consumption noticeably. Regular cleaning or replacement protects efficiency and lowers the bill.

Our building's ducts are old, will a new filter fit?

The filter mounts in the mixing plenum regardless of the duct age, but old ducts may leak unfiltered air, so we will inspect the system for leaks and seal issues during the visit.

Does poor outdoor air quality make the filter clog faster?

Yes, Jeddah's dust concentration and coastal humidity speed up pollutant buildup on the filter. Higher-grade filters offer better protection but need more frequent cleaning.
