Who needs a new cold room?

  1. 1

Restaurant or bakery expanding its store

Your current storage cannot hold the quantities you need, or you are relying on domestic fridges that are not up to the job. A purpose-built cold room keeps ingredients at a steady temperature and cuts waste caused by temperature swings.

  2. 2

Pharmacy or clinic needing medical storage

Medicines, vaccines and sensitive medical supplies need a temperature that does not shift when the door opens or when Jeddah's summer heat peaks. We build the room to suit that use and choose the condensing unit after the site survey.

  3. 3

Warehouse or grocery starting from scratch

You are fitting out your premises and want a cold room built in from the start, or you want to convert part of a warehouse into one. The site, the daily stock volume and how often the door opens all shape the right specification, and we work that out with you at the survey.

Who it's for

  • Opening a bakery and need ingredient storage

We survey your allocated space and build a cold room sized to your daily production volume, from insulated panels to the temperature controller.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

The technician visits, measures the available space and asks about your stock type, quantities and daily use to set the room dimensions and the capacity the unit needs.

  2. 2

    Panels and door

We fit the insulated wall and ceiling panels and seal every joint, then hang the cold room door in its frame and check that the seal presses evenly on all four sides.

  3. 3

    Cooling unit and pipework

We mount the condensing unit where it has enough air, fit the evaporator inside the room, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints, fully insulated to reduce heat gain.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, start-up, handover

We vacuum the copper line and test joints before starting the unit, then set the temperature controller and confirm the room reaches the target temperature before handing over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Sarawat is a mixed residential and commercial district growing with small food shops and restaurants, many working in tight spaces within buildings of varied design. A cold room here must fit the available footprint exactly and manage the high humidity of the coastal climate, so its installation needs precise coordination with the shop owner to avoid business interruption.

Al Sarawat lies in Jeddah's southern commercial zone, a district of medium-rise buildings mixing shops and residential flats.

Most cold rooms in small shops here range from 2 to 4 cubic metres, mounted either inside the shop or in a rear yard space.

The AC setup in Al Sarawat

  1. 1

Small integrated cold room inside the shop

In Al Sarawat's small shops, we build an insulated panelled room integrated within the space, leaving room for sales and foot traffic.

  2. 2

Cold room in a rear yard or side passage

Some shops have a small yard or rear passage, which we use for the cold room, freeing the entire sales floor.

  3. 3

Outdoor unit mounted on roof or wall

The outdoor condensing unit sits on the roof or exterior wall, with a short copper run to the indoor room.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Sarawat

  1. 1

Measure the space and decide on the room location

Before our visit, confirm the exact available space and whether you prefer the room inside the shop or in a yard or rear passage.

  2. 2

Schedule a time that does not disrupt trading

Pick a time outside peak trading hours if possible, and brief staff that the team will be on site for several hours.

  3. 3

Confirm the team can reach the roof or outdoor location

Verify that the roof or outdoor location for the condensing unit is safe and accessible for the team.

FAQ

Questions about Cold room installation

How is the right cold room size worked out?

Size depends on the type and quantity of stock, how often fresh goods come in and how many times the door opens each day. These factors together set the dimensions and the cooling unit capacity needed, which is why we do not suggest a size before the site visit.

Where does the condensing unit go in a restaurant or warehouse?

The condensing unit needs enough air around it, distance from heat sources and a spot a technician can reach for servicing. We decide the best location at the site survey based on the building layout and how the space is used.

What happens to my stock if the power to the room cuts out?

A well-insulated room with a tight door holds its cold for a limited time if the door stays shut, and longer the thicker the insulation and the better the seal. So we choose the panel thickness and the door seal with care, and set the controller to raise an alarm when the temperature rises, so you can act before stock spoils.

What is the difference between this room and a freezer room?

A chiller room works above freezing and suits vegetables, medicines, dairy and baked goods. A freezer room works below freezing and needs thicker insulation, an insulated floor, a heated door frame and a defrost system. If you need freezing or a combined room, we offer that as a dedicated service.

Can a cold room be installed in a rented space without major structural changes?

In most cases yes. Insulated panels are assembled inside the existing space without demolition or construction work, and the condensing unit is fixed in a suitable spot the technician identifies at the survey. Ceiling type and building ventilation may affect the details, and we confirm those after seeing the site.

My shop is small, can you fit a cold room inside it?

Yes, we measure your available space and design a room sized to your stock without blocking sales traffic, with safe and easy access to the door.

The street outside is narrow and busy, how do you deliver the materials?

We coordinate delivery at the best time and transport the panels and unit methodically, avoiding disruption to foot and vehicle traffic.

Humidity is high so close to the sea, does that affect the room's performance?

Yes, coastal humidity raises the cooling load, so we size the condensing unit generously and fit an efficient water drainage system inside the room.

The shop's electrics are old, will they handle the cold room's power demand?

We inspect your electrical panel and connections first and advise on any circuit upgrades needed before installing the unit.
