Who needs a new cold room?

  1. 1

Restaurant or bakery expanding its store

Your current storage cannot hold the quantities you need, or you are relying on domestic fridges that are not up to the job. A purpose-built cold room keeps ingredients at a steady temperature and cuts waste caused by temperature swings.

  2. 2

Pharmacy or clinic needing medical storage

Medicines, vaccines and sensitive medical supplies need a temperature that does not shift when the door opens or when Jeddah's summer heat peaks. We build the room to suit that use and choose the condensing unit after the site survey.

  3. 3

Warehouse or grocery starting from scratch

You are fitting out your premises and want a cold room built in from the start, or you want to convert part of a warehouse into one. The site, the daily stock volume and how often the door opens all shape the right specification, and we work that out with you at the survey.

Who it's for

  • Opening a bakery and need ingredient storage

We survey your allocated space and build a cold room sized to your daily production volume, from insulated panels to the temperature controller.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

The technician visits, measures the available space and asks about your stock type, quantities and daily use to set the room dimensions and the capacity the unit needs.

  2. 2

    Panels and door

We fit the insulated wall and ceiling panels and seal every joint, then hang the cold room door in its frame and check that the seal presses evenly on all four sides.

  3. 3

    Cooling unit and pipework

We mount the condensing unit where it has enough air, fit the evaporator inside the room, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints, fully insulated to reduce heat gain.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, start-up, handover

We vacuum the copper line and test joints before starting the unit, then set the temperature controller and confirm the room reaches the target temperature before handing over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Shuwaidi has grown as a mixed residential and commercial district with small shops and hotels in relatively modern buildings with reasonable outdoor space. The intense summer heat and humidity from the coastal proximity affect the outdoor unit's efficiency and condensation. New cold rooms here need strong insulation and regular water drainage to prevent freezing and failure.

Al Shuwaidi lies in north Jeddah, a modern growth area combining housing, hotels and small retail shops.

Most cold rooms in Al Shuwaidi are small to medium, 5 to 15 tonnes capacity, with outdoor units on balconies or side walls because rooftops are limited on mixed-use buildings.

The AC setup in Al Shuwaidi

  1. 1

Small cold room for a restaurant or food shop

Most small restaurants and food shops in Al Shuwaidi need a room sized 5 to 10 tonnes with 8 cm panels and a hinged door with strong closers and tight seals.

  2. 2

Outdoor unit on a side wall or building balcony

The unit is mounted on a side wall or balcony with sun and wind protection, and condensate drains safely away from adjacent units.

  3. 3

    Simple controller with mechanical thermostat

Most small cold rooms use a simple mechanical thermostat to hold set temperature without complex electronic controls.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Shuwaidi

  1. 1

Prepare keys and coordinate with management

If the room is in a hotel or managed building, coordinate with management to ensure safe access for the team and equipment on installation day.

  2. 2

Confirm the balcony or side wall is strong enough

If the outdoor unit will be on a balcony, ensure the structure can bear its weight and vibrations, with enough clearance around it for airflow.

  3. 3

Inform neighbours and customers of the installation date

The cold room installation can affect adjacent floors or shops through noise and vibration. Alert neighbours a day or two beforehand so they are prepared.

FAQ

Questions about Cold room installation

How is the right cold room size worked out?

Size depends on the type and quantity of stock, how often fresh goods come in and how many times the door opens each day. These factors together set the dimensions and the cooling unit capacity needed, which is why we do not suggest a size before the site visit.

Where does the condensing unit go in a restaurant or warehouse?

The condensing unit needs enough air around it, distance from heat sources and a spot a technician can reach for servicing. We decide the best location at the site survey based on the building layout and how the space is used.

What happens to my stock if the power to the room cuts out?

A well-insulated room with a tight door holds its cold for a limited time if the door stays shut, and longer the thicker the insulation and the better the seal. So we choose the panel thickness and the door seal with care, and set the controller to raise an alarm when the temperature rises, so you can act before stock spoils.

What is the difference between this room and a freezer room?

A chiller room works above freezing and suits vegetables, medicines, dairy and baked goods. A freezer room works below freezing and needs thicker insulation, an insulated floor, a heated door frame and a defrost system. If you need freezing or a combined room, we offer that as a dedicated service.

Can a cold room be installed in a rented space without major structural changes?

In most cases yes. Insulated panels are assembled inside the existing space without demolition or construction work, and the condensing unit is fixed in a suitable spot the technician identifies at the survey. Ceiling type and building ventilation may affect the details, and we confirm those after seeing the site.

What size cold room does a small restaurant in Al Shuwaidi need?

It depends on your seating, daily stock of meats, vegetables and beverages. We send a survey team to calculate the heat load based on your space and usage, and recommend the right capacity before purchase.

Can the outdoor unit go on a building balcony instead of the roof?

Yes, in many Al Shuwaidi cases we mount the unit on a side wall or balcony because roofs are shared. But the balcony must be strong enough for the unit's weight and have enough space for airflow and servicing.

Coastal humidity increases condensation on the door, how do you reduce it?

We fit a door with strong gaskets and adequate thickness to reduce the temperature difference between inside and out. If condensation persists, we add a small electric heater to the door frame to prevent icing and excess moisture.

Does a cold room need annual spare parts or is it safe for years without service?

Cold rooms need regular checks of water drainage, the condenser, and interior surfaces. We recommend quarterly or bi-annual inspections to confirm the condenser is clean and the outdoor unit is not leaking.
