Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Andalus is a modern district with tall buildings, relatively spacious outdoor areas and courtyards protected from severe winds and direct coastal humidity. Upmarket restaurants and hotels here need large freezer rooms with high-output performance and professional stock organisation, at different temperatures by food type. The base must resist very heavy weight and moderate humidity, advanced drainage is essential because kitchens generate large volumes of condensation and wastewater, and refrigerant piping needs larger diameter lines to handle high loads.

Al Andalus is in west Jeddah, a modern zone of upmarket hotels, restaurants and shopping complexes relatively shielded from direct coastal humidity.

Hotels and upmarket restaurants here install very large freezer rooms holding tens of tonnes of stock, often with dual or triple-zone systems.

The AC setup in Al Andalus

  1. 1

    Large multi-zone freezer room

Hotels and upmarket restaurants here install large rooms with three to four separate zones using very powerful refrigeration systems.

  2. 2

Treated floor for heavy weight and intensive movement

The floor must support heavy trolleys and daily intensive movement in sub-zero conditions, so it needs special treatment.

  3. 3

    Enhanced drainage with large-diameter piping

Professional kitchens generate large condensation volumes, so we install larger pipes with improved siphoning.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Andalus

  1. 1

Help us identify location, size and required zones

Tell us the available space, number of zones and required temperatures, as this determines system size and room design.

  2. 2

Confirm electrical capacity and drainage capability

A large room needs very strong power and safe drainage; confirm the infrastructure exists or can be upgraded.

  3. 3

Coordinate delivery and installation schedule with the hotel or restaurant

Large room installation takes time and labour; agree with us on times that do not disrupt daily kitchen operations.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

We need a huge freezer room for an upmarket hotel, how do you handle that scale?

We design a large room with multiple zones and very powerful refrigeration systems, advanced drainage and a treated floor to handle heavy weight and constant movement.

A professional kitchen needs three zones for different meats, fish and poultry, can you do that?

Yes, we install a three-zone system with fully insulated dividers and separate temperatures for each section, with precise heat and humidity control.

The kitchen generates large volumes of drainage and condensation, how do you run the drainage?

We install advanced drainage with larger-diameter pipes and an improved siphon, with floor treatment to ensure safe drainage without sub-floor dampness.

How long does it take to install such a large room?

It depends on size and location, but we plan with the hotel or restaurant and often complete it in stages to avoid prolonged operational downtime.
