Freezer and dual-temp rooms
Cold & freezer room installation in Al Bawadi
In Al Bawadi, central Jeddah, cold and freezer room installation is requested by restaurant owners, cafés and grocery shops in this mixed-use district. Alrabih's team designs the room for your inventory, poultry, beverages or groceries, and works within the limited gaps between buildings.

Who needs a specialist freezer room?
- 1
Stock that needs sub-zero cold
Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.
- 2
One room, two temperature zones
Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.
- 3
Expanding an existing facility
If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.
Who it's for

How we work
How we work
- 1
Site survey
We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.
- 2
Design and supply
We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.
- 3
Installation and connection
We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.
- 4
Start-up and handover
We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.
Specialist install or an unconsidered one?
| Alrabih | The usual way | |
|---|---|---|
| Floor | Insulated with vapour barrier | Plain floor that cracks |
| Door frame | Heated to prevent seizure | Freezes and warps |
| Evaporator | Scheduled electric defrost | Ice blocks the airflow |
| Insulation | Thickness set at survey | Same thickness for every room |
| Anteroom | Buffer zone reduces air ingress | Direct door into freezer |

What sets this district apart
Al Bawadi is a mixed-use district of medium-sized residential and commercial blocks, with food shops usually on ground floors below flats or offices. Space is available but tight, electricity may be shared with other residents, and the building management may need to approve. Insulation and copper piping need careful planning to avoid noise and vibration affecting neighbouring flats.
Al Bawadi sits in central Jeddah, a mixed residential and commercial zone with medium-rise blocks and organised streets.
Cold and freezer rooms in shops and restaurants here are medium-sized and usually placed on the ground floor or in a limited back yard.
The AC setup in Al Bawadi
- 1
Small to medium room with external compressor
Most shops and restaurants in Al Bawadi lack indoor space for the compressor, so we mount it outside on the roof or back yard.
- 2
Heavy insulation to reduce noise and vibration
Because flats are nearby, we add extra sound insulation in walls and base to reduce compressor noise that might disturb residents.
- 3
Insulated copper piping with moisture protection
External piping is wrapped in protective insulation to shield the copper from coastal humidity and rust.
Before the visit
Before our visit in Al Bawadi
- 1
Tell us your preferred compressor location
Before the visit, let us know if you prefer the compressor on the roof or in the back yard, and confirm it will be easily accessible.
- 2
Coordinate with management and notify neighbours
Notify building management and neighbouring residents of the expected installation date, and ensure the entry and passages are clear for work.
- 3
Confirm electrical capacity and drainage
Check that the electrical panel can handle the room's load, and that the room site has good drainage for condensation water.

FAQ
Questions about Cold & freezer room installation
Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?
At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.
What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?
Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.
Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?
Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.
Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?
Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

My building is mixed residential and commercial, do I need building management approval?
Yes, we advise you to notify building management in advance, especially if the room sits next to residential flats, as the compressor may produce low-level noise.
Building power is shared with residents, how do you handle the electrical supply for the room?
We inspect the existing circuit and check its capacity, and may recommend upgrading the panel or adding a separate circuit if needed, coordinating with building management.
My shop is small with very limited space, how do you fit a complete freezer room?
We size the room to fit your exact space, and may place the compressor outside in the back yard or on the roof, with insulated piping running through the wall.
Does coastal humidity affect the room's lifespan and insulation quality?
High coastal humidity may affect metals and copper lines, so we use rust-resistant materials and cover external piping with protective insulation.
