Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Rahmah is a mixed residential-commercial district in south Jeddah, with mid-rise buildings and moderate plots. Shops and markets here range from small to medium size, many along a busy commercial street. Roofs and courtyards may be limited, but commercial spaces are usually clear and separate. Power is usually adequate but may need the right circuit identified, and the outdoor unit mounts on the roof or side annexes as space allows.

Cold and freezer rooms in Al Rahmah are usually small to medium-sized, with the outdoor unit on a roof or side annexe due to space constraints.

The AC setup in Al Rahmah

  1. 1

Small cold room for a busy neighbourhood shop

Small shops in Al Rahmah benefit from a compact cold room with reasonable depth and an easy-access door.

  2. 2

Medium-capacity freezer room for district markets

Markets and medium shops need a medium-capacity freezer room to store frozen poultry, meat and fish.

  3. 3

Compact outdoor unit on a side annexe or sheltered corner

Space constraints in Al Rahmah mean the outdoor unit typically sits on a small side annexe or sheltered corner away from the street.

Before the visit

Get the building owner and neighbours' approval

Before the visit, ensure the building owner and residents approve the unit location, especially if it is on a shared roof.

  2. 2

    Identify available space and obstructions

Tell us the size of the storage or courtyard and any pipes or wires already on the roof or side annexe.

  3. 3

Confirm the electrical circuit and panel location

Tell us where the electrical panel is and whether there is room for a new circuit.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

My shop is small and the roof is shared; where do you place the outdoor unit?

We survey the site and look for a corner or side annexe away from neighbours' entrances. If the shared roof is the only option, we need the landlord and residents' approval.

There are water pipes and electrical wires on the roof; how do you avoid damaging them?

We survey the roof in detail before installation and map the pipes and wires. We choose a safe location away from them and arrange drainage so it does not cross existing pipework.

The street is noisy and the shop is beside it; will the outdoor unit add noise?

The street is indeed noisy, and the unit's sound will be audible. We install it to minimise vibration, and may use thin acoustic dampening or site it further from the front facade if possible.

My shop's wiring is old and the socket near the fridge is occupied; do you need a completely new circuit?

Yes, we recommend a dedicated new circuit for the unit. This ensures stability and avoids overloading the existing circuit. We survey the electrical panel and plan the safe route for the new wire.
