When your cold room needs attention

  1. 1

    Room not holding temperature

The temperature climbs slowly even though the unit keeps running, or the products inside are warmer than they should be. The cause could be the evaporator, condensing unit, refrigerant level or controller, and only a site check tells which.

  2. 2

    Evaporator icing up and stopping

Ice builds on the evaporator until airflow stops and cooling fails. The cause is usually in the defrost circuit, its sensor or the evaporator fan. Jeddah's humid air speeds up icing when anything in that circuit is not working correctly.

  3. 3

    Door letting cold air escape

A worn or deformed door seal lets warm humid air in, overloading the refrigeration unit and speeding up evaporator icing. If the door frame heater has failed, moisture builds on the frame and the door becomes hard to open.

Who it's for

  • Running a restaurant or central kitchen cold room

We check the evaporator, defrost circuit and door seal in your kitchen cold room and fix any fault before your food stock is put at risk.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what you see: the temperature showing on the controller, whether the unit is running or not, and the type of stock inside the room.

  2. 2

    Site check and diagnosis

The technician checks the evaporator, condensing unit, defrost circuit, controller and door seal, then identifies the actual cause of the temperature loss before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and replacement

We fix what the diagnosis found: clean the evaporator, repair the defrost circuit, replace the seal or adjust the refrigerant charge to the type written on the unit nameplate.

  4. 4

    Test and handover

We run the room and watch the temperature until it reaches the set value, confirm the alarm and controller are working, then hand you a report of what was done.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Farouq is a dense commercial and service area with many small and medium restaurants, cafés and bakeries. Most are not as large as warehouses, but their cold rooms run continuously under steady load all day. The intense heat in South Jeddah and coastal humidity add pressure to the cooling system across these busy commercial areas. Any breakdown directly impacts the restaurant's operations and reputation.

Al Farouq is in South Jeddah's commercial sector, an area focused on restaurants, cafés and food outlets.

Most restaurants and cafés here have small to medium cold rooms with simple but constantly running control systems.

The AC setup in Al Farouq

  1. 1

One small cold room per restaurant

Most Al Farouq restaurants and cafés have one small or medium cold room with a simple control system.

  2. 2

    Medium-capacity systems for daily use

The system runs a medium compressor and smaller condenser since daily load is less than large warehouses.

  3. 3

    Easy-open doors with standard seals

Doors in restaurants open frequently, so seals must withstand heavy daily use.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Farouq

  1. 1

Tell us where the cold room is located in the restaurant

Specify the room's location (kitchen, storage, etc.) and the nearest entrance to access it without disturbing customers.

  2. 2

Schedule the visit after peak hours

Agree with us on a time after main lunch or dinner service to minimise impact on restaurant operations.

  3. 3

Ensure power supply and outdoor unit access

Make sure electrical circuits are adequate and the outdoor unit can be safely accessed from the yard or outside.

FAQ

Questions about Cold rooms

Why does the temperature rise even though the unit runs all the time?

Continuous running does not mean correct operation. Common causes include a refrigerant leak that reduces the charge, heavy frost on the evaporator coil blocking airflow, or a fault in the rooftop condensing unit raising head pressure. A site survey identifies the actual cause before any work begins.

How do I know if the defrost cycle is working properly?

Clear signs of a defrost fault include thick frost covering the full evaporator coil, a gradual temperature rise while the unit keeps running, and water pooling on the floor instead of draining away. The check covers the heater element, the defrost sensor and the controller, as the fault can lie in any of these parts.

What does a preventive visit for a cold room cover?

A preventive visit covers a pressure check on the refrigeration circuit, cleaning the condenser and evaporator coils, inspecting door seals and frame heaters, testing the controller and alarm, and checking copper pipe connections. The aim is to find a developing fault before it affects the room temperature and the stock inside.

What is the difference between a preventive visit and a repair visit?

A preventive visit is carried out on a unit that is running normally: the purpose is inspection, cleaning and finding early signs of wear before they become a breakdown. A repair visit is requested when an actual fault appears, such as a rising temperature, a stopped compressor or excessive coil icing. Diagnosis comes first, then the required work is defined.

Does Jeddah's rooftop heat affect the condensing unit's performance?

Yes. In summer, Jeddah rooftop surfaces reach very high temperatures, which raises condensing pressure, stresses the compressor and reduces cooling capacity. Regular cleaning of the condenser coil to remove the dust and salt that cling to the fins is essential, not optional. A site survey determines whether the unit's position or the airflow around it is making the problem worse.

The restaurant is busy all day, can you service it quickly?

We understand the pressure in restaurants. We focus on quick diagnosis and direct repair without lengthy service downtime.

The door opens frequently, does this affect the room's efficiency?

Yes, frequent opening raises the temperature and increases system load. We regularly inspect the seal and hinges to minimise air leakage.

Kitchen humidity is very high, does it affect the cold room?

High humidity increases condensation on the evaporator coils. We clean the evaporator and condenser regularly to maintain room performance.

How do you ensure food is stored safely?

We check the temperature and the system's full efficiency, so a stable room maintains food safety. Contact us immediately if temperature rises.
