When your cold room needs attention

  1. 1

    Room not holding temperature

The temperature climbs slowly even though the unit keeps running, or the products inside are warmer than they should be. The cause could be the evaporator, condensing unit, refrigerant level or controller, and only a site check tells which.

  2. 2

    Evaporator icing up and stopping

Ice builds on the evaporator until airflow stops and cooling fails. The cause is usually in the defrost circuit, its sensor or the evaporator fan. Jeddah's humid air speeds up icing when anything in that circuit is not working correctly.

  3. 3

    Door letting cold air escape

A worn or deformed door seal lets warm humid air in, overloading the refrigeration unit and speeding up evaporator icing. If the door frame heater has failed, moisture builds on the frame and the door becomes hard to open.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what you see: the temperature showing on the controller, whether the unit is running or not, and the type of stock inside the room.

  2. 2

    Site check and diagnosis

The technician checks the evaporator, condensing unit, defrost circuit, controller and door seal, then identifies the actual cause of the temperature loss before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and replacement

We fix what the diagnosis found: clean the evaporator, repair the defrost circuit, replace the seal or adjust the refrigerant charge to the type written on the unit nameplate.

  4. 4

    Test and handover

We run the room and watch the temperature until it reaches the set value, confirm the alarm and controller are working, then hand you a report of what was done.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.

What sets this district apart

Al Rabee has a relatively modern layout with dispersed shops and wider commercial spaces than older districts. Shops here offer better spacing and ventilation, making team and equipment access easier. Cold rooms in Al Rabee serve butchers, poultry shops, bakeries and imported fruit stores, running high load during peak hours. Intense heat and coastal humidity require regular checks to ensure safe operation.

Al Rabee sits in North Jeddah as a modern mixed commercial and residential district with shops distributed across wide, organised streets.

Al Rabee's cold rooms range from medium to large, with outdoor units typically mounted on roofs or external walls with adequate ventilation space.

The AC setup in Al Rabee

  1. 1

Medium to large cold rooms for specialist shops

Butcher, poultry, bakery and imported fruit shops in Al Rabee have larger rooms than typical small shops.

  2. 2

Outdoor units on roofs with adequate ventilation space

Al Rabee's wide roofs provide ample space to mount outdoor units and ensure proper ventilation.

  3. 3

Digital or modern mechanical control systems

Most Al Rabee cold rooms have modern control systems that monitor temperature precisely.

Before the visit

Confirm the parking location in front of the shop

Let us know the closest parking spot to your shop so we do not have to carry equipment far.

  2. 2

    Confirm safe high-roof access

Verify the roof has a safe staircase or platform and that railings are in place before the visit.

  3. 3

Gather unit age and previous fault details

Tell us when the unit was installed and any previous issues to help us diagnose correctly.

FAQ

Questions about Cold rooms

Why does the temperature rise even though the unit runs all the time?

Continuous running does not mean correct operation. Common causes include a refrigerant leak that reduces the charge, heavy frost on the evaporator coil blocking airflow, or a fault in the rooftop condensing unit raising head pressure. A site survey identifies the actual cause before any work begins.

How do I know if the defrost cycle is working properly?

Clear signs of a defrost fault include thick frost covering the full evaporator coil, a gradual temperature rise while the unit keeps running, and water pooling on the floor instead of draining away. The check covers the heater element, the defrost sensor and the controller, as the fault can lie in any of these parts.

What does a preventive visit for a cold room cover?

A preventive visit covers a pressure check on the refrigeration circuit, cleaning the condenser and evaporator coils, inspecting door seals and frame heaters, testing the controller and alarm, and checking copper pipe connections. The aim is to find a developing fault before it affects the room temperature and the stock inside.

What is the difference between a preventive visit and a repair visit?

A preventive visit is carried out on a unit that is running normally: the purpose is inspection, cleaning and finding early signs of wear before they become a breakdown. A repair visit is requested when an actual fault appears, such as a rising temperature, a stopped compressor or excessive coil icing. Diagnosis comes first, then the required work is defined.

Does Jeddah's rooftop heat affect the condensing unit's performance?

Yes. In summer, Jeddah rooftop surfaces reach very high temperatures, which raises condensing pressure, stresses the compressor and reduces cooling capacity. Regular cleaning of the condenser coil to remove the dust and salt that cling to the fins is essential, not optional. A site survey determines whether the unit's position or the airflow around it is making the problem worse.

My new shop's cold room was never efficient from day one, why?

The compressor may be underpowered, refrigerant may be low, or the evaporator may be dirty. We inspect the entire system to find the root cause.

The street is wide, but the roof is very high, can you safely go up?

Yes, we have safety equipment for high roof work. We confirm safe access and supports before the visit.

Dust builds up quickly on the outdoor unit, does this affect it?

Yes, dust and coastal salt clog the condenser fins and reduce cooling. We clean them regularly to restore performance.

How can I avoid cold room problems in future?

Regular cleaning of the condenser and evaporator, door seal inspection and checking pipes for blockages are essential. We recommend service every three months or more frequently depending on use.
