Desert cooler, proper duct

Evaporative (desert) duct installation in Al Shiraa

In Al Shiraa, north Jeddah, evaporative duct installation suits the modern villas and residential blocks with exposed roofs and open floor plans. The team mounts the cooler on the roof and runs large galvanised duct to the rooms and open areas.

When you need evaporative cooler duct

  1. 1

    A large workshop or warehouse

Large industrial spaces get very hot in Jeddah summers and split units are expensive to run there. An evaporative cooler with distribution duct brings air to work areas at lower running cost, provided the space is ventilated and not sealed shut.

  2. 2

A majlis tent or seasonal space

Outdoor majlis areas and seasonal tents do not suit split AC units because of the structure. Evaporative duct delivers a cool air stream as long as the space is open enough for air changes, which the survey confirms.

  3. 3

    Old duct with poor airflow

Old sheet duct cracks over time and air leaks from the joints before reaching the space. On site we check whether the problem is leaking duct, poor distribution, or the cooler size itself.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a large workshop at reasonable running cost

We survey the workshop and check its ventilation, then run galvanised duct from the roof cooler to the work areas with exhaust openings that keep air moving through the space.

  • You have an outdoor majlis that needs seasonal cooling

We check how open the majlis is and assess its structure, then design the duct route and exhaust openings so cool air reaches the seating area without humid air building up inside.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey first

We visit, measure the space and check how open it is, because evaporative cooling needs enough ventilation; without it humidity rises inside and the cooling effect drops.

  2. 2

    Plan the duct route

We plan the main duct run, branches, air outlet positions and exhaust opening locations, and show you the layout before any work starts.

  3. 3

    Install duct and seal roof

We open the roof, fit and seal the collar against leaks, then run the galvanised duct and hang it on proper supports so it does not sag.

  4. 4

    Start-up and test

We run the evaporative cooler and check that air reaches every outlet and that the exhaust openings are working so fresh air is visibly moving through the space.

What sets this district apart

Al Shiraa is a relatively modern residential area of spacious villas and apartment blocks with accessible exposed roofs, making evaporative cooler installation and duct runs straightforward. Indoor spaces are larger than older districts, and roofs are safe to work on, but checking the structural capacity of the roof beforehand is vital to support the cooler and duct weight. Planning the duct run and exhaust openings requires coordinating with the owner or building manager to avoid any architectural obstacles.

Al Shiraa is in north Jeddah, a modern residential area of villas and apartment blocks with exposed roofs and varied architectural designs.

Most villas and apartment blocks in Al Shiraa have buildable roofs with open indoor floor plans, making evaporative duct systems a practical choice.

The AC setup in Al Shiraa

  1. 1

    Roof-mounted cooler with galvanised duct

The cooler is anchored to the villa or building roof, and the galvanised duct extends to the rooms and open areas easily due to the roof space.

  2. 2

Multiple exhaust openings for different rooms

The duct branches to deliver cooled air to each room, with exhaust openings on exterior walls or windows.

  3. 3

Simple system with regular maintenance access

The galvanised duct in Al Shiraa is easy to clean and inspect regularly due to the straight run and accessible roof.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Shiraa

  1. 1

Confirm the team can access the roof

Check that the roof door is unlocked or tell us where the key is, and make sure the ladder or staircase to the roof is safe.

  2. 2

Prepare the cooler mounting site on the roof

Clear the planned mounting location of any obstructions or stored materials, and ensure the roof surface is level and safe to work on.

  3. 3

Map the duct route inside the building with management

Meet the building manager or owner to identify the best duct path through ceilings and walls, and let us know of any architectural or structural constraints.

FAQ

Questions about Evaporative (desert) duct installation

Does evaporative cooling work in Jeddah in summer?

Evaporative cooling relies on water evaporation and weakens when humidity is high. In Jeddah, humidity is higher near the coast and lower inland. The survey decides whether the space and the season are suitable, which is why we do not start before visiting the site.

Why do exhaust openings matter as much as the duct runs?

An evaporative cooler pushes fresh air in continuously. Without an exit path, humid air builds up inside and the felt temperature rises. Properly sized exhaust openings keep air moving through, not piling up, and that is the core of how this type of cooling works.

What sheet do you use for the duct?

We use G90 galvanised steel sheet, which resists rust in Jeddah's humid and salty air. The duct sections are formed in our workshop before being taken to site, then hung on supports along the run to stop them sagging.

Can one cooler supply duct to more than one area?

Duct can be branched from one unit to more than one outlet, but each branch reduces the airflow at every opening. The survey decides whether the cooler has enough output for the total area, or whether a separate unit for each wing is the better answer.

Can evaporative cooler duct run through a false ceiling?

Evaporative cooling depends on continuous air movement and exchange, which requires exhaust openings in the same space the duct serves. A false ceiling restricts that flow unless dedicated openings lead air out of the building. The site survey decides whether the structure allows it, because the duct run and the exhaust are designed together as one system, not separately.

Is evaporative duct cooling right for my villa in Al Shiraa?

Yes, modern villas in Al Shiraa with exposed roofs and open spaces suit evaporative duct cooling well. A site visit from our team confirms the engineering details.

My roof is fairly small, how do you fit the cooler on it?

We assess the roof size and the area to be cooled beforehand. If the roof is tight, we may position the cooler to the side or near the roof edge, ensuring sturdy structural anchoring.

Summers in Al Shiraa are very hot, is the evaporative cooler enough?

Evaporative cooling works well in high heat, but its efficiency depends on air humidity and saturation levels. A site visit confirms whether the system suits your needs or requires supplementary cooling.

The duct will pass near electrical wires in the ceiling, is that safe?

We keep the duct and cooler clear of electrical runs and maintain safe clearances. Our team reviews the building's electrical plans before installation to ensure safety.
