When your freezer needs attention

  1. 1

The freezer is not freezing hard

Products feel soft or partly thawed even though the freezer is running. The cause may be the thermostat, the compressor, the refrigerant charge or the temperature sensor circuit. A site diagnosis tells you which one needs fixing.

  2. 2

Ice building up and not defrosting

A thick ice layer on the freezer wall or evaporator points to a fault in the defrost cycle, whether in the defrost heater, timer or sensor. Left alone, the build-up strains the compressor and steadily raises electricity use.

  3. 3

A door that will not seal or a unit that keeps alarming

A worn door gasket lets warm humid air in constantly, building ice and pressing the compressor harder. We check the gasket, the door frame and the alarm switch to find the cause of repeated alarms and put it right.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

Send us the freezer type, the fault you have noticed and your district, and we tell you what the technician will need before the visit.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnosis

The technician checks the compressor, evaporator, defrost circuit and door gasket, then explains what he found and proposes the repair before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and reset

We fix the faulty part, reset the defrost cycle if needed, and test the freeze temperature and alarm after closing the unit.

  4. 4

    Performance check and handover

We confirm the freezer reaches the right freeze temperature and the door closes tightly, then explain how to monitor performance over the next few days.

What sets this district apart

Al Khalidiyah is a relatively modern West Jeddah district expanding with hotels, restaurants and commercial centres, with newer buildings and better architectural spacing than old quarters. Commercial freezers here run heavy loads for big hotels and restaurants, and high summer heat and moderate humidity demand intensive regular maintenance. Outdoor units have more ventilation space, making work easier, faster and less costly than in tight old districts.

Al Khalidiyah lies in West Jeddah, a modern district of hotels, restaurants and shopping centres with wider spaces.

Most hotels and restaurants here own large horizontal freezers or advanced commercial units with powerful outdoor compressors and modern control systems.

The AC setup in Al Khalidiyah

  1. 1

    Large-capacity horizontal freezer for hotels

Large hotels and restaurants use 800+ litre horizontal freezers for bulk storage of meat, fish and poultry.

  2. 2

Powerful outdoor compressor with modern control systems

The outdoor unit has smart thermostat or PLC control and sits in an open location with good ventilation space for regular cleaning.

  3. 3

Long copper run with advanced thermal insulation

Long copper lines connect the compressor to the display unit with foam insulation to reduce cold loss in transit.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Khalidiyah

  1. 1

Specify outdoor unit location and access condition

Tell us exactly where the unit is (roof, yard or wall), and whether there is a safe lift or stairway to reach it, especially in multi-storey hotels.

  2. 2

Coordinate maintenance time with hotel management

Coordinate with hotel management or restaurant manager to schedule maintenance during non-peak guest or service times.

  3. 3

Ensure electrical tools and safety are available

Verify there is a safe electrical outlet near the unit, and that the hotel allows maintenance tools and ladders through the main entrance.

FAQ

Questions about Freezer maintenance

Can the freezer be repaired without emptying it completely?

It depends on the fault. Checks on the compressor or an external sensor can be done without touching the contents. Repairs to the evaporator or defrost heater need the freezer emptied, and we tell you in advance and advise how to keep the stock in cool boxes while we work.

Why does my freezer compressor never stop running?

Three common causes: a worn door gasket letting warm air in, ice build-up on the evaporator reducing heat transfer, or low refrigerant. The technician checks all three during the visit and identifies the real cause before any repair.

Why does heavy frost keep building up inside my freezer even though the door closes properly?

The most common cause is a fault in the automatic defrost circuit, whether in the heater element, the timer or the temperature sensor. When this circuit fails, ice accumulates on the evaporator coil until airflow is blocked, cooling weakens and energy use rises. The technician identifies the exact cause by testing each component of the circuit in turn.

Do you service both chest and upright freezers?

Yes, we service both types in homes and shops. Chest and upright freezers share many components such as the compressor, evaporator and thermostat, but the defrost cycle design and coil position differ between them, and our technicians are trained to handle that difference in every case.

Does the freezer type, chest or upright, change how the repair is done?

Yes, in some steps. A chest freezer has the evaporator wrapped around the inner walls, while an upright has it at the back of the compartment with a fan. The position of the defrost heater and how to reach it differ between the two, so the technician needs to know the type before the visit to bring the right tools.

Temperature suddenly rises in the hotel freezer, what is wrong?

We first check refrigerant level, as leaks are the main cause. Then we inspect the outdoor coils for ice or dust, and verify the thermostat is properly calibrated.

The hotel is in an open location with direct sun on the outdoor unit, does this harm performance?

Yes, direct sun raises condenser temperature and cuts cooling efficiency. We recommend a protective canopy or shade screen on the outdoor unit, with monthly coil cleaning.

Is noise from the outdoor compressor too high?

High noise may mean liquid refrigerant entering the compressor or internal wear. We inspect the sound and measure compressor performance, and may suggest replacing sound-damping pads.

Should the hotel have a regular maintenance contract?

Yes, we recommend quarterly or bi-annual maintenance contracts for hotels, as freezers run heavy duty. The contract covers refrigerant check, coil and compressor inspection, and deep cleaning.
