When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Most Al Ma'rifah medical centres are medium-sized, holding dental clinics, internal medicine rooms and basic procedure rooms across one or two floors. These buildings need a cooling system that separates different departments but without the full complexity of a large central system. A smart design using linked split units or semi-central systems meets medical needs while making routine maintenance simpler.

Al Ma'rifah lies in north Jeddah, a district of medium-sized clinics and medical centres on relatively open land.

Most medium-sized clinics here use a semi-central system combining shared outdoor units with separate air distribution for each department.

The AC setup in Al Ma'rifah

  1. 1

    Semi-central system with shared units

Medium-sized clinics here benefit from shared outdoor units distributing air to separate departments with independent control.

  2. 2

Linked split units for smaller departments

If departments are few and close together, multiple split units share one refrigerant line to simplify maintenance.

  3. 3

    Separate temperature control per department

Each department has its own thermostat controlling its required temperature without affecting other departments.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Ma'rifah

  1. 1

Provide an architectural plan of the clinic

We need a sketch or plan showing department locations, doors and windows to estimate the cooling load accurately.

  2. 2

    Identify outdoor unit mounting locations

Confirm that a safe roof or external wall is available for mounting outdoor units without interfering with patient and staff activities.

  3. 3

Tell us the clinic's operating hours

Operating hours affect cooling load, so tell us when the clinic opens and which days it is closed.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Our clinic is small, do we need a full central system?

Not necessarily. We first ask about the number of departments and each one's needs. Usually linked split units or a semi-central system is enough and easier to maintain.

We have a small surgery room and an exam room, how do you separate the cooling?

We design the surgery room as a separate zone with high-efficiency filters and precise temperature control, and the exam room on another zone, so each department operates independently.

Al Ma'rifah gets very hot in summer, can your system handle the high heat load?

We calculate the cooling load from patient numbers, medical equipment, operating hours and sun exposure, then choose unit capacity based on this precise calculation.

How often should the system be checked and serviced each year?

We recommend at least quarterly checks and filter and evaporator cleaning, with additional servicing depending on clinic use and air quality.
