Hospital HVAC in Al Nur

In Al Nur, north Jeddah, Alrabih serves modern hospitals and clinics that demand precise temperature and humidity control. Any cooling failure in an operating theatre or ICU puts patients at risk, so we design systems to each department's requirements and carry out maintenance without closing any ward.

When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.

What sets this district apart

North Jeddah's districts host modern hospitals in multi-storey buildings with scattered specialist departments, each demanding its own temperature and humidity profile: operating theatres need sterile separate cooling, ICUs require stable control, and labs and pharmacies cannot tolerate any break in the cold chain. This layout requires our team to master complex central air networks and ducting systems that link the wards.

Al Nur lies in north Jeddah, a modern area that hosts major hospitals with specialist departments and tall residential towers.

Hospital cooling here is predominantly central, with separate control units per department and complex duct networks running through floors and walls.

The AC setup in Al Nur

  1. 1

Central system with separate control units

Most Al Nur hospitals use a unified central cooling system with separate control units per department to prevent any ward from affecting another.

  2. 2

    Complex duct networks through floors

Ducts run through multiple floors in insulated pipes to minimise heat loss and sound leakage between adjacent wards.

  3. 3

Backup units and isolated plant rooms

Al Nur hospitals have dedicated plant rooms with backup generators and standby chillers to ensure continuity if a unit fails.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Nur

  1. 1

Coordinate with hospital management in advance

Tell us the permitted maintenance hours, which wards must not be interrupted, and the staff member who will accompany the team.

  2. 2

    Identify safe access routes

Confirm that our team can reach plant rooms, roofs and ducts safely without disrupting patient movement or staff corridors.

  3. 3

Arrange parking near the service entrance

Reserve parking near the hospital's service entrance to let the team bring equipment in without disrupting patient reception.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

How do you ensure cooling never stops in ICU wards?

We design systems with backup units and schedule maintenance in phases so cooling never stops, and we test each backup before starting the actual work.

Our theatre needs a separate sterile cooling system, can you provide this?

Yes, we install separate sterile cooling systems for theatres with high-efficiency filters and precise temperature and humidity control.

Labs and pharmacies need refrigerated drug storage, how does your network handle that?

We design central cooling networks that handle varying loads across clinics, labs and pharmacies, with separate control zones for areas needing lower temperatures.

How do you access outdoor units and rooftops in a multi-storey hospital building?

We coordinate with hospital management to schedule safe roof maintenance times, and use proper safety equipment and scaffolding when needed.
