When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Al Manar is a mixed area in east Jeddah with modern villas alongside mid-rise apartments, meaning windows vary in size and type, from robust frames in new villas to lighter frames in older blocks. Window units here need individual assessment of frame and wall strength, and sealing must be tight against the intense east-side heat during peak hours.

Al Manar is in east Jeddah, a mixed residential area with villas and apartment blocks varying in age and quality.

Windows in Al Manar range from robust frames in modern villas to lighter frames in older blocks, requiring individual assessment for each site.

The AC setup in Al Manar

  1. 1

    Strong windows in modern villas

Modern villas in Al Manar have standard strong windows and sturdy frames that support window units without reinforcement.

  2. 2

    Medium windows in apartment blocks

Apartment blocks in Al Manar typically have standard medium windows; frame strength must be checked before installation.

  3. 3

Safe drainage away from occupied areas

Condensate drains outward so it does not fall on the building entrance or neighbour's area; the outward tilt ensures this.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Manar

  1. 1

Inspect window frame carefully before the visit

Ensure the frame and surrounding wall have no cracks or weakness, and the frame is not cracked or water-damaged.

  2. 2

Identify sun direction and heat exposure

If the window faces direct sun all day, let us know so we can adjust sealing and tilt as needed.

  3. 3

Clarify a suitable outdoor unit location

Identify a spot on the roof or balcony for the outdoor unit that allows good ventilation and is safe from falling or obstruction.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

My villa is older, can a window AC be safely installed?

We inspect the frame and wall first; if they are strong enough we can install safely, otherwise we suggest frame reinforcement or an alternative.

The window unit blocks light from the window, what is better?

A window unit reduces light slightly but gives efficient cooling and easy installation; the alternative is a split system that does not block windows but needs copper piping.

Sun hits my east-facing window every morning, does it affect the unit?

Direct heat increases the cooling load, so we ensure very tight sealing around the frame and recommend a blind or external shade to reduce heat ingress.

How many outdoor units if I have two adjacent flats?

Each flat needs its own outdoor unit, and spacing them properly on the roof or balcony ensures good airflow for both.
