When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Al Widad features a mix of modern residential buildings and multi-storey flats with standard windows in many cases. Frames here are usually aluminium, but the original sealing around them may be weak. The nearby coastal environment means salt and humidity quickly seep through any small gap, so re-sealing the spaces around the unit is essential to protect interior walls from moisture penetration and salt creep.

Al Widad is in east Jeddah, a modern residential area with multi-storey buildings close to the coast.

Most Al Widad windows are aluminium frames in modern buildings, and outdoor units are typically mounted on limited balconies or external ledges.

The AC setup in Al Widad

  1. 1

Window AC on a standard aluminium frame

Standard aluminium frames in modern buildings provide a uniform, straightforward base, but need precise sealing of gaps around the unit.

  2. 2

Mounting on a balcony or external ledge

Most outdoor units mount on small balconies or limited external ledges, requiring robust anchoring standards to withstand wind and rain.

  3. 3

Sealed drainage system protecting adjacent structures

Buildings sit close together here, so condensate must be directed away from neighbouring flats without damaging exterior facades.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Widad

  1. 1

    Confirm high-floor safety standards

If the flat is on a high floor, ensure the team can safely reach the window and balcony, and a strong attachment point exists for equipment.

  2. 2

Specify drainage route and adjacent flat location

Tell us if there is a neighbouring flat below or beside you, and specify your preferred water drainage location to avoid disturbance.

  3. 3

Ensure the window is clear of curtains and obstructions

A day before the visit, remove curtains and objects near the window to facilitate installation and measurement.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

Humidity and salt affect the AC quickly here, what do you recommend?

We seal all gaps with high-grade insulation and salt-resistant silicone. We recommend checking the unit every six months to ensure salt and humidity have not entered.

My flat is on a high floor, is AC installation safe there?

Yes, we use strong, safe mounting equipment with careful frame and ledge inspection. All tools and harnesses meet international safety standards.

The gap between window and wall is very small, can you seal it?

Yes, we use precision-control foam insulation and flexible silicone to fill tight gaps without damaging frame or wall.

The water will drip on the flat below, how do we solve this?

We angle the installation so water drains directly downward in front of the flat (to the ground) or fit a drain pipe that channels water away from adjacent buildings.
