When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Umm Al Salam is an established residential zone mixing blocks, villas, small offices and shops, with many buildings having standard windows that accept units. The eastern location and relative coastal proximity mean high heat, humidity and salt in the air, especially in older buildings with larger gaps. Correct outward tilt and tight sealing around the frame are vital here to keep hot humid salty air out and preserve unit efficiency.

Umm Al Salam lies in east Jeddah, an established residential district with diverse blocks, villas and offices.

Most buildings in Umm Al Salam have standard windows suitable for units, though some older structures may need frame or wall reinforcement.

The AC setup in Umm Al Salam

  1. 1

Standard windows in modern blocks and villas

Most modern buildings in Umm Al Salam have uniform windows, making unit selection and fitting straightforward.

  2. 2

Weak wooden frames in older villas

Some older villas have wooden frames that may be weak or cracked, requiring close inspection before installation.

  3. 3

Protection against coastal salt and humidity

Coastal proximity means high salt in the air, so we use salt and humidity-resistant weatherproofing materials.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Umm Al Salam

  1. 1

    Identify the target window precisely

Before the visit, tell us the window location (ground or upper floor) and which room, plus the frame condition.

  2. 2

Ensure safe space for the outdoor unit

The outdoor unit needs clear space free from obstacles, so check for no power lines or pipes nearby.

  3. 3

Check wall and frame for secure fitting

The wall and frame must safely bear the unit's weight, so check for no visible cracks or dampness on the surface.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

Does coastal humidity and salt affect window units here?

Yes, salt seeps through gaps and rusts metal parts quickly. We seal all gaps completely and ensure continuous outward tilt for water drainage.

My older villa has frame cracks, can it take a window unit?

We inspect cracks first, and repair minor ones before fitting. If severe we may suggest frame reinforcement first.

Older Al Salam buildings have high internal humidity, does a window unit help?

Yes, the unit dries air and reduces humidity, but tight sealing is essential to stop new moisture entering from outside.

Is the old building's power supply adequate for multiple window units?

We check the electrical system first, and if capacity is limited we advise fitting one unit first or adding a separate circuit.
