Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Sahil

In Al Sahil south of Jeddah, modern residential flats need central AC that distributes air evenly without disturbing neighbours. Alrabih's team carefully routes the ducts and condensate drain to suit the tight ceiling void and limited space in each flat.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Sahil is a relatively modern district of multi-storey residential buildings with uniform designs and standard flat sizes. The suspended ceiling in most of these flats is tight, leaving little space for ductwork, so planning the indoor unit placement and runs precisely is essential to avoid eating into living space. The closely spaced flats also mean any noise from the compressor or fans will carry to neighbours, so we choose distant, sound-isolated positions.

Al Sahil sits south of Jeddah, with modern multi-storey residential buildings of uniform design.

Most Al Sahil flats need a single ceiling-mounted indoor unit with lightweight distribution ducts and condensate drain routed to the bathroom or kitchen.

The AC setup in Al Sahil

  1. 1

Single ceiling unit with distribution ducts

Most Al Sahil flats use a single central ceiling unit that distributes air through lightweight ducts to bedrooms, living areas and kitchen.

  2. 2

Condensate drain to bathroom or kitchen

The suspended ceiling allows the drain pipe to run easily to the bathroom or kitchen without leaving damp marks on the flat's interior walls.

  3. 3

Outdoor unit on roof or rear balcony

The outdoor unit sits on the building roof or rear balcony to stay clear of the front façade and reduce noise to neighbouring flats.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Sahil

  1. 1

    Confirm building management approval

Contact the building management and inform them of your central AC installation plan, securing written approval for the outdoor unit location before our visit.

  2. 2

    Measure the suspended ceiling space

Measure the gap between the original and suspended ceiling and mark any beams and cables so we can choose the best position for the indoor unit.

  3. 3

Clarify preferred drain and duct routes

Tell us if you prefer the condensate drain in the bathroom or kitchen, and identify which rooms should receive air so we can plan the routes before arrival.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat's suspended ceiling is very tight, can you install central AC?

Yes, we select compact indoor units and narrow ducts to fit the tight ceiling without compromising the flat's interior height.

I am in a residential building, how do you get the outdoor unit to the roof?

We coordinate with the building management in advance to arrange safe roof access, and confirm their approval of the outdoor unit placement before we start.

Does the coastal humidity affect central AC performance?

High humidity can increase condensation in the ducts, so we carefully choose the drain location and fit a high-efficiency air filter to protect the cold coil.

How do you keep compressor noise from reaching the neighbours?

We mount the outdoor unit away from the shared party wall, and use sound-damping pads under the compressor and flexible connections on the refrigerant and suction lines.
