Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Sarawat

In Al Sarawat, south Jeddah, installing central AC in apartments means fitting the indoor unit carefully into a tight ceiling void and routing condensate drain lines away from shared walls. Alrabih designs the system to run quietly in these adjoining flats.

  • Tight ceiling
  • Sealed drain
  • Quiet running

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Sarawat is a relatively modern residential district of multi-storey apartment buildings, where the ceiling voids in flats are shallow, making indoor unit placement an engineering challenge. Condensate drainage from the indoor unit needs precise routing to avoid leaking into the flat below or onto shared walls with neighbours. The district is packed with similar units, and noise from the central AC travels easily between adjoining homes, so installation must minimise sound.

Al Sarawat is in the south, a district of modern apartment blocks with shallow ceiling voids and shared walls between units.

Most Al Sarawat flats need the indoor unit concealed in a false ceiling, with centralised drainage routed through hidden pipework.

The AC setup in Al Sarawat

  1. 1

Indoor unit in the false ceiling

The indoor unit is typically mounted in the false ceiling of the hallway or kitchen, preserving space and hiding the ducting from sight.

  2. 2

    Air distribution through concealed ductwork

Ducts run through the false ceiling and hallways, delivering air from the indoor unit to distribution vents in each room.

  3. 3

Centralised drainage to an external line

Drain piping collects condensate from the indoor unit and directs it to a safe external outlet on a consistent fall.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Sarawat

  1. 1

Tell us about the false ceiling location and depth

Let us know where the false ceiling is (hallway, kitchen or bathroom) and its approximate depth so we can confirm the indoor unit will fit.

  2. 2

Show us the safe drainage route

Show us where the drain pipe can safely exit away from neighbouring units, whether through an external balcony or a building's central drainage line.

  3. 3

Ensure clear access for installation and operation

Make sure the living areas, hallways and any outdoor unit location are clear of obstructions before our visit.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

How do you distribute air in an Al Sarawat flat if the ceiling is shallow?

We position the indoor unit carefully within the false ceiling, and route the ducting using flat or narrow profiles through hallways and above ceilings, so we save space and deliver air evenly to every room.

The AC drain could leak into the flat below mine, how do you prevent that?

We route the drain pipe with a safe fall to a designated external outlet, and ensure all connections are airtight and secure to prevent any seepage through poor fixings or blockages.

AC noise travels to my neighbours' flats, can you reduce it?

We mount the indoor unit on flexible isolators to absorb vibration, position it away from shared walls where possible, and design the ducting to minimise air velocity and noise transmission.

Our building's electrics may not handle extra load, could that be an issue?

We check the building's electrical capacity and circuit breaker before installation, and if needed we advise you to upgrade the supply with a licensed electrician before we begin.
