Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Shuwaidi

In Al Shuwaidi, north Jeddah, modern apartment blocks need central AC that quietly distributes cool air across multiple rooms. Alrabih's team locates the indoor unit in the tight ceiling void and runs the condensate drain carefully to prevent dampness between walls.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Shuwaidi is a relatively modern residential district with medium-rise apartment blocks and closely packed units, meaning tight internal ceilings and shared corridors between adjacent flats. Central AC installation here requires precision in placing the indoor unit away from bedrooms that share walls, and careful routing of drain lines because moisture can easily migrate into a neighbouring flat through the shared ceiling cavity. Air distribution through vents and ducts must be balanced to prevent noise and vibration that would disturb neighbours.

Al Shuwaidi lies in north Jeddah, a district of medium-rise apartment blocks with closely packed units and narrow internal ceiling cavities.

Most flats in Al Shuwaidi have a suspended ceiling at only 2.4 metres high, leaving very limited space for the indoor unit and ductwork.

The AC setup in Al Shuwaidi

  1. 1

Indoor unit in the suspended ceiling

The indoor unit is typically mounted behind the suspended ceiling in a hallway or bathroom to distribute air evenly across all rooms.

  2. 2

Flexible ducts in the tight ceiling space

In flats with tight ceilings, we use narrow flexible ducts to minimise the space taken up and ensure air flows quietly through the system.

  3. 3

Centralised drain routed away from shared walls

The drain line runs outside the flat or to a sealed collection point in a safe location, well away from walls shared with neighbouring units.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Shuwaidi

  1. 1

Check the suspended ceiling and existing ducts

Make sure the suspended ceiling is easily accessible and tell us if there are existing ducts or cables that might obstruct the installation.

  2. 2

Identify an outdoor outlet for the drain

Agree with us on an outdoor drain outlet location, or decide if you prefer a sealed indoor collection basin that drains manually or by pump.

  3. 3

Coordinate with neighbours and building management

Notify the building management and neighbouring flats about the installation date, as the team may need to use shared corridors and park briefly near the building entrance.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Can you fit central AC in my Al Shuwaidi apartment?

Yes, we assess the suspended ceiling and available spaces before installation. We choose a location that preserves adequate ventilation clearance and does not noticeably lower room height.

The neighbouring flat shares my wall, will condensate water seep into it?

No, we run the condensate pipes on a consistent slope toward an external outlet or isolated internal collection point, ensuring the line avoids any shared walls.

Al Shuwaidi gets quite humid in summer, does central AC handle high humidity well?

Yes, central AC removes humidity through the evaporator coil, but performance depends on regular maintenance of filters and ducts to prevent blockages that reduce efficiency.

My suspended ceiling is thin, will it carry the weight of the indoor unit?

It depends on the type of mounting frame and the metal supports underneath. We inspect the structure before installation, and if needed we fit additional bracing to distribute the load safely.
