Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Ushairiyah

In Al Ushairiyah, east Jeddah, installing central AC in flats faces harsh climate challenges from extreme summer heat and frequent dust. Alrabih selects powerful units with enhanced filtration and designs balanced cold-air distribution across every wing.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Ushairiyah is a fast-growing residential district inland on the east side, facing extreme summer heat (often above 45°C) and direct exposure to dust-laden eastern winds. The buildings are relatively new with good ceilings and wide corridors that ease duct distribution, but the cooling load is very high due to intense solar radiation and hot outdoor air. Choosing a unit with adequate capacity and thicker filters is essential for handling the ambient dust, and fitting an extra filter on the outdoor unit inlet keeps efficiency intact.

Al Ushairiyah is in north-east Jeddah, a modern residential district of apartment blocks with direct exposure to extreme heat and dust.

Most Al Ushairiyah flats need cooling units of 4 to 5.5 tons to cool large spaces under intense heat and high solar radiation.

The AC setup in Al Ushairiyah

  1. 1

High-capacity cooling units of 4 to 5.5 tons

The high cooling load in Al Ushairiyah demands high-capacity units to ensure continuous cooling even at peak heat.

  2. 2

Thick filters with an extra outdoor filter

Filters 16 to 25 mm thick and an extra inlet filter on the outdoor unit protect against constant dust.

  3. 3

    Balanced ducts ensure even distribution

Insulated ducts and balanced vents distribute cold air evenly across all wings despite intense outdoor heat.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Ushairiyah

  1. 1

Measure window areas on each facade

Tell us the window areas on south and east facades so we can accurately calculate solar heat gain.

  2. 2

Position the outdoor unit away from direct heat

Choose a location with partial shade or protected from direct summer sun to reduce the cooling load on the outdoor unit.

  3. 3

Tell us about furniture layout and partitions

Furniture placement, sofas and any partition walls affect airflow, so describe your flat layout to help us plan distribution.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Summer heat in Al Ushairiyah is brutal, will central AC be enough?

Yes, if we select a unit with adequate capacity (4 to 5.5 tons depending on flat size) and position it well. We calculate the cooling load based on sun-facing walls and glass windows.

Constant dust clogs my AC filters fast, how do you solve this?

We choose thicker filters (16 to 25 mm) and fit an extra filter on the outdoor unit. Monthly service cleans the indoor filters to keep airflow and efficiency up.

Do large south and east-facing windows increase the cooling load?

Yes, significantly. We factor window area and orientation into our load calculation, and may recommend insulating curtains or tinted glass to reduce solar gain before hot air enters.

Does cold-air distribution reach all parts of the flat evenly under such extreme heat?

Yes, with proper duct design and balanced vents. We check airflow in each wing and adjust vents if needed to ensure even cooling throughout.
