Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Wadi

In Al Wadi, south Jeddah, installing central AC in apartments calls for careful work in shallow ceilings and balanced air distribution across differently sized residential units. Alrabih sizes the system to run efficiently and quietly in adjoining flats.

  • Tight ceiling
  • Sealed drain
  • Quiet running

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Wadi is a mixed residential district with apartment buildings of varying sizes and flats ranging from large to small, each requiring bespoke duct design for fair air distribution. Ceiling voids are tight, and existing wiring and pipes leave a narrow margin for the new central system. Condensate drainage must work by gravity alone, and any misalignment will cause water pooling and mould. The district needs precise system balancing to ensure every flat gets proper airflow without disturbing neighbours.

Al Wadi is in the south, a district of apartment blocks of varying sizes with tight ceilings and flats of different floor areas.

Al Wadi flats typically need a concealed indoor unit and flat ductwork to fit the shallow ceilings and varied flat sizes.

The AC setup in Al Wadi

  1. 1

    Indoor unit with flat ductwork

We mount the indoor unit in the false ceiling and route flat ducts to fit the tight space between existing wires and pipes.

  2. 2

    Distribution vents of varying sizes

Distribution vent sizes vary from room to room according to each flat's size and cooling demand.

  3. 3

    Drainage system with pooling protection

Drain pipes slope continuously to the external outlet and include a drain valve at the lowest point to prevent stagnation.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Wadi

  1. 1

Inspect wires and pipes in the ceiling

Before our visit, check the false ceiling and tell us about any wiring, water pipes or ventilation already in place and where they run.

  2. 2

Tell us the approximate size of each room

Even rough estimates help us calculate the cooling load and design fair distribution across the flat.

  3. 3

Identify the drainage route and safe outlet

Tell us about the nearest safe drainage outlet, whether an external balcony or an existing building drainage line.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat is smaller than my neighbour's, does the central system balance the airflow fairly?

We design the system with dampers and distribution vents of different sizes matched to each flat's area, and install controls to adjust airflow according to actual needs.

The false ceiling is crowded with wires and pipes, how will you fit the new unit?

We inspect the ceiling in advance to identify safe space, and coordinate with electricians or plumbers if needed to reroute wires or pipes without compromising their function.

Humidity in Al Wadi is high, will water pool in the drain pipes?

We install drain pipes on a steady, continuous fall to the external outlet, and fit a drain valve at the lowest point to prevent pooling and mould growth.

Central AC needs a strong electrical supply, is the current wiring adequate?

We assess the system's electrical load and check the circuit's capacity. If it falls short, we advise you to upgrade the supply with a licensed electrician before we start.
