When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Widad apartments vary in size, some older and others newer, with uneven ceiling voids and sometimes concrete supports blocking the ducts. This variety requires our team to understand each architectural design and navigate structural obstacles when distributing air. The drain in such flats needs special care to avoid blockages and dampness in tight corridors and small bathrooms.

Al Widad sits in Jeddah's east sector, a mixed residential district with varied apartment sizes and ages, featuring diverse architectural styles.

Al Widad flats demand varying degrees of distribution complexity: some can take a single central indoor unit, others may need ducts routed around concrete supports.

The AC setup in Al Widad

  1. 1

Single central indoor unit with distribution ducts

Most Al Widad flats fit a single indoor unit in the central ceiling with multiple distribution ducts covering living and bedroom areas.

  2. 2

    Routing ducts around concrete supports

When concrete supports are present in the ceiling, we use flexible or metal ducts to route around them without affecting structural integrity.

  3. 3

Safe drain routing in bathroom or central line

We coordinate with building management to connect the drain to the central line or route it safely through the bathroom to the outside.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Widad

  1. 1

Send the flat plan or ceiling photo

Send us a drawing of the flat or a clear photo of the ceiling, voids and any concrete supports before the visit.

  2. 2

Ensure safe access to ceiling and balcony

Prepare a safe ladder for accessing the ceiling, and ensure safe access to the balcony or roof where the outdoor unit will sit.

  3. 3

Coordinate with management on duct and drain routing

Contact building management beforehand and seek approval for routing distribution and drain ducts through shared ceilings or external voids.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

My flat is older and has concrete supports in the ceiling, can you work with that?

Yes, we design duct routes to curve around concrete supports without compromising the structure, using flexible or metal ducts as needed.

The flat is small and the corridors are few, where will you place the indoor unit?

We review the flat plan beforehand and choose between the main ceiling, bathroom or entrance, based on available height, space and natural ventilation.

The building has high moisture, does the drain need special care?

Yes, we coordinate with building management to connect the drain safely to the central line and ensure water does not pool in corridors or bathrooms.

The flat is vacant now, how do you ensure no damage occurs during installation?

We protect floors and walls with protective covers, handle equipment carefully, and avoid unnecessary drilling in walls shared with occupied flats.
