Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Al Zahra

In Al Zahra, west Jeddah, installing central AC in apartments calls for special handling because units are closely adjoined and interior space is tight. Alrabih's team selects the mounting location to minimise noise and vibration between flats and runs drainage safely.

  • Tight ceiling
  • Sealed drain
  • Quiet running

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Zahra's relatively older flats are congested with very tight false ceilings, making quiet and balanced air distribution across rooms a genuine challenge. The high coastal humidity in this western zone makes proper drain-pipe handling critical, and even minor indoor-unit leakage can affect the flat below quickly. The proximity of outdoor units to each other also requires smart location selection to prevent heat and noise transfer.

Al Zahra sits on Jeddah's western coast, an area of relatively older residential blocks with narrow facades and small balconies.

Most Al Zahra flats need a simple indoor unit in the false ceiling, and outdoor units are usually mounted on narrow balconies or outer walls very close to neighbouring units.

The AC setup in Al Zahra

  1. 1

Quiet indoor unit in the corridor

The corridor is ideal for the indoor unit because it reduces noise in bedrooms and distributes cool air evenly to every room.

  2. 2

Drain line protected from coastal corrosion

The moisture and salt in Al Zahra's coastal air require drain pipes coated with special protection to prevent corrosion and leakage.

  3. 3

Outdoor unit carefully mounted on narrow balcony

We secure the outdoor unit with a sturdy metal bracket on the narrow balcony, with vibration isolation to minimise noise and disturbance.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Zahra

  1. 1

    Check the electrical wiring

Confirm you have a dedicated circuit near the outdoor unit location, and check voltage and amp requirements are met.

  2. 2

    Identify the outdoor unit spot

Choose a safe spot on your balcony or outer wall for the unit, away from neighbours' windows and existing drain lines.

  3. 3

    Coordinate with your neighbours

Notify the flats above and below about installation timing, as the team may need access to shared areas or the false ceiling.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Humidity in Al Zahra is very high, can central AC handle this?

Yes, but we install a robust, corrosion-protected drain point and use moisture-barrier insulation around ducts to prevent excess condensation in the false ceiling.

My balcony is very narrow, where will you put the outdoor unit?

We survey the location before the visit and choose the best option, either at the balcony edge or on a safe outer wall, ensuring no disturbance to neighbours.

Will the central AC noise bother the flat below mine?

We use sound barriers around the indoor unit and ducts in the false ceiling, and select quiet units to minimise noise travelling vertically.

The flat's wiring is old, how much current do you need?

We need a dedicated circuit of at least 16 amps for the outdoor unit; we recommend having the wiring checked by an electrician before installation.
