Central AC for apartments

Apartment central AC in Madain Al Fahd

Installing central AC in Madain Al Fahd apartments in south Jeddah requires careful planning because ceiling voids are tight and units share walls. Alrabih's team selects the indoor unit location precisely and routes the condensate drain safely to prevent moisture issues and noise between neighbours.

When central AC makes sense in your flat

  1. 1

    New flat before finishing

The finishing stage is the right time to install central AC. The ceiling is open and walls are ready for copper and drain routes, so there is no need later to cut plaster or damage finished surfaces.

  2. 2

Occupied flat where splits fall short

If splits leave hot and cold patches, or the noise bothers you at night, central AC distributes air evenly and hides the unit away from the room. A site survey decides whether your ceiling height allows it.

  3. 3

    Your unit disturbs the neighbours

In apartments, neighbours hear unit vibration through shared ceilings and walls. We choose the indoor unit suspension point carefully and use flexible collars on the air outlets to absorb vibration before it reaches the building structure.

Who it's for

  • Living in a furnished flat and want to replace splits

We survey your ceiling void to see whether a concealed unit fits, then run copper and drain without disturbing the existing décor.

  • Buying a flat in a building under construction

We coordinate with the finishing stage to run copper, drain and ducts before ceilings and walls are closed, so every route stays fully concealed.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Ceiling and route survey

We measure the available ceiling void, decide where the indoor unit hangs, map the copper route and find where condensate drains without causing damp. The survey decides whether one zone or more suits the flat.

  2. 2

    Run copper and drain

We run insulated Mueller copper in the void above the suspended ceiling and slope the condensate line towards the building drain or an external outlet, so no standing water causes odour or damp.

  3. 3

    Fit ducts and outlets

We mount the indoor unit on vibration-absorbing hangers, route ducts to each room and place every outlet so air spreads evenly without blowing cold air directly onto anyone.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, test and hand over

We vacuum the copper line to remove air and moisture, check all joints, then run the unit and confirm cooling in every room before we hand over.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Madain Al Fahd is a modern residential district with medium-rise apartment blocks of similar units in tight layouts. The suspended ceilings are narrow and cannot take large ducts, and the walls between flats are thin so sound travels easily, so the install relies on a compact indoor unit placed in the corridor or bathroom and quiet air distribution through ceiling vents. The drain must follow a safe route to the outside or the building's central drain line to prevent water seeping into flats below.

Madain Al Fahd is in south Jeddah, a modern residential district of medium-rise apartment blocks in a planned layout.

Most Madain Al Fahd apartments have central AC installations with a single indoor unit in the ceiling, and the available space is very tight.

The AC setup in Madain Al Fahd

  1. 1

Single indoor unit in the ceiling

A single flat typically needs just one indoor unit placed in the suspended ceiling to distribute air through ducts to all rooms.

  2. 2

Narrow ducts to reduce vibration noise

Ducts are designed with limited diameters to fit the tight ceiling void and minimise vibration and sound transfer to neighbouring flats.

  3. 3

    Safe-slope condensate routing

The drain pipe runs from the ceiling at a continuous slope to outside the flat or to central drainage with building consent.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Madain Al Fahd

  1. 1

    Measure the ceiling void gap

We need the actual distance between the suspended and real ceiling to confirm enough space is available for the unit and ducts.

  2. 2

    Confirm building management approval

The AC drain may use the building's central drainage line, so confirm building management approval before the visit.

  3. 3

Agree on the indoor unit location

Agree with our team on the best indoor unit location, whether corridor or bathroom, to balance airflow and minimise noise.

FAQ

Questions about Apartment central AC

Is there enough ceiling space in a flat for a central unit?

It varies between flats. Slim ceiling cassettes need less void depth than full ducted units. A site survey measures what is available and decides the right type; if the corridor ceiling is too shallow we look at a storage room or bathroom ceiling instead.

Is one unit enough for the whole flat or do I need more?

It depends on the flat's area, room layout and how much sun each side receives. Two- and three-bedroom flats can sometimes work with one unit and well-planned ducts; larger flats or those with separate zones may need two. The survey decides.

Where does the outdoor unit go when the flat has no large balcony?

Options include the shared roof if the building rules allow it, a facade bracket away from neighbours' windows, or the balcony if it can take the load. We review the building's rules before recommending any position.

Jeddah's air is very humid; does that affect the condensate drain?

Yes. In Jeddah the indoor unit produces more condensate because of the high humidity. We make sure the drain line has enough fall, that the horizontal run before it drops is not too long, and that the outlet does not conflict with other flats' drainage in the building.

Can the flat be split into two zones with different temperatures?

It is possible using two separate indoor units or by adding variable-flow dampers on the duct runs. The right choice depends on the flat's layout and the ceiling void available in each zone. A site survey decides which approach suits your room arrangement.

Is the gap between the suspended and real ceiling enough for central AC ducts?

It depends on the actual clearance in your apartment. We visit to measure the gap between the ceilings before designing and installing to confirm enough space exists for the unit and ducts.

Does central AC cause noise for neighbours above or below?

Noise reduces by placing the indoor unit away from shared walls and isolating vibrations. We position it to keep sound at a minimum for your neighbours.

Where does the AC condensate drain go, and won't it leak on the flat below?

We route the drain pipe with a safe slope outside the flat or to the building's main drain line under building management supervision to prevent leaks on other flats.

How do you ensure even cool air distribution throughout the flat?

We design the duct path to reach all rooms with balanced sections, and test airflow after installation to confirm even distribution.
