Central AC filters

Central AC air filters in Al Marsa

In Al Marsa, west Jeddah on the coast, high coastal humidity stresses central AC filters in residential towers and apartment blocks. Alrabih's team inspects the filter and its seal, and replaces it promptly to prevent moisture and mould buildup.

When the filter needs attention

  1. 1

Airflow from the grilles has dropped

When the filter fills with dust the blower works harder to pull air through it, and less reaches the rooms. In Jeddah, dust and humidity combine and block the filter faster than most people expect.

  2. 2

    Dust rings around the diffusers

Grey rings around the grilles mean the air is carrying what it should not. Usually the filter is no longer doing its job, or air is bypassing it through a gap in the frame and reaching the room unfiltered.

  3. 3

Coil freezes or AHU keeps stopping

A common cause of a frozen coil is a clogged filter that cuts airflow across the coil, dropping evaporator pressure until moisture freezes on it. If the unit runs then stops, or air comes out warm, the filter is the first thing worth checking.

Who it's for

  • Living in a villa and noticing dust on furniture

We check the filters on all central AC units in the villa and confirm each filter seats properly against its frame so unfiltered air does not reach the rooms.

  • Managing a commercial building with weak airflow complaints

We inspect the AHU filters across the building, identify which are blocked or bypassing air at the frame, then clean or replace each one according to its type.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Tell us your unit type

WhatsApp a photo of the central unit or AHU, its location and your district, so we know the filter type and where to find it before the visit.

  2. 2

    Filter and frame check

The technician inspects the filter and judges how blocked it is, then checks that it seats squarely against the frame so no unfiltered air slips past into the main airstream.

  3. 3

    Clean or replace

A washable filter is cleaned and left to dry fully before going back in. A disposable one is replaced with a size that fits the frame precisely, because an undersized filter leaves a gap air will always find.

  4. 4

    Post-clean check

After the filter is back in we run the unit and check airflow at the grilles and that the coil face carries no compacted dust slowing heat transfer.

What sets this district apart

Al Marsa is a district of modern apartment blocks and tall towers near the shoreline, where strong sea humidity affects AC filters by increasing condensation and speeding fungal and mould growth on the filter and coil. Most buildings here share central AC units, and mould-clogged filters reduce indoor air quality and cause bad odours. Filter replacement here is more frequent than inland areas because humidity accelerates deterioration.

Al Marsa sits on Jeddah's western waterfront, a district of modern residential towers right near the sea.

Most residential buildings here use shared central AC units with filters sited in the plant room or ceiling plenum near the roof.

The AC setup in Al Marsa

  1. 1

Central filters in the plant room

Most residential towers in Al Marsa concentrate filters in the central plant room near the main unit for easier routine servicing.

  2. 2

Filters in ceiling plenums between floors

Some modern towers distribute secondary filters in floor-by-floor or sectional ceiling plenums to improve air distribution and quality.

  3. 3

    High-grade filters for humidity resistance

Some upmarket flats choose higher-grade filters with moisture and mould-resistant media to extend service life.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Marsa

  1. 1

Coordinate with building management for access

Alert building management in advance of the visit date so they can safely unlock the plant room or roof access.

  2. 2

Check power availability in the plant room

Ensure there is a safe power outlet near the unit in the plant room to test the new filter before completion.

  3. 3

Clear obstructions around the indoor unit

Make sure no items or furniture block access to the indoor unit or filter location.

FAQ

Questions about Central AC air filters

What is the difference between a washable and a disposable filter?

A washable filter has a rigid frame with reusable mesh; it is cleaned with water and put back. A disposable one is compressed paper or fibre that is discarded when full. Both must match the frame dimensions precisely, and the technician will confirm which type fits your unit on site.

Can a clogged filter push up the electricity bill?

Yes. When a blocked filter resists airflow the blower runs under higher load, and the compressor runs longer because cooling does not reach the rooms efficiently. Cleaning the filter is the simplest step that reduces consumption without touching any other part of the system.

How does Jeddah dust affect a central AC filter?

Jeddah combines fine airborne dust, salt from the sea and high humidity. Moist dust sticks to filter fibres and forms a denser layer than dry dust does, which means the filter needs more attention than in drier climates. Regular inspection is the only reliable way to know its actual condition.

If the rooms cool slowly, is cleaning the filter enough?

A clogged filter is a common cause of slow cooling but not the only one. After cleaning and refitting we check airflow and air temperature at the grilles. If cooling is still slow there may be an issue with the coil, the blower or something else in the unit, and that calls for a full central AC service visit.

Does the right filter vary from one AHU to another?

Yes. Frame dimensions and depth vary between units, and some AHUs hold multiple filters in a single bank. A filter smaller than the frame leaves a gap that air will always bypass without being filtered. For this reason the technician measures the frame on site and confirms the correct size before cleaning or replacing.

Does sea humidity cause mould in the filter?

Yes, coastal humidity speeds mould growth on the filter and coil, reducing air quality and causing stale smells in the flat.

The unit is in a high-rise tower, how do you reach the plant room?

Most towers here have accessible plant rooms via the service stair or lift, and the team coordinates with building management for safe access.

How often should I change the filter here because of the humidity?

Sea humidity accelerates clogging and mould, so we recommend checking monthly and replacing every two to three months.

Do salt air and humidity affect the filter's electrical connections?

Salt air and moisture can cause slow corrosion of connections, so we check wire condition and seals before restarting the unit after replacement.
