Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Barakah mixes older apartment blocks densely packed alongside newer shops and warehouses with wider spaces, with streets of varying width. Freezer rooms here face challenges: southern humidity increases moisture pressure on the foundation and floor, and seasonal heat demands strong insulation. Adjacent shops and warehouses may limit outdoor space for the compressor and condenser, so we might need compact solutions or roof mounting. Coordinating with the shop owner and nearby buildings is essential before installation.

Al Barakah sits in south Jeddah, a heritage district blending traditional and modern residential blocks with shops and warehouses along streets of varying width.

Freezer rooms here range from small for individual shops to medium for warehouses, often facing constraints on outdoor space.

The AC setup in Al Barakah

  1. 1

Small to medium freezer room for shops and warehouses

Individual shops need small rooms of 2 to 3 metres, warehouses need larger ones with parallel compressors.

  2. 2

    Roof or external wall mounting

Narrow streets and closely built blocks limit outdoor space, so we move the compressor and condenser to the roof or a distant external wall.

  3. 3

    Separate drainage with collection tank

High humidity requires a tight drainage system or safe collection tank connected to the sewers.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Barakah

  1. 1

Fix the location and assess equipment access

Choose the room location and check whether heavy equipment can be moved through the narrow street and entrance.

  2. 2

    Confirm electrical and water connections

Check the location of the main electrical panel and water supply, and confirm safe extension of wires and pipes to the room site.

  3. 3

Coordinate with neighbours and adjacent shops

Inform adjacent shops and warehouses of the installation date to avoid clashing with their operations, and confirm approval for any shared space use.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

Al Barakah gets humid in summer, does this affect the freezer room's lifespan?

Yes, southern humidity increases pressure on the foundation and floor. We select especially thick insulation and a frost-resistant floor for this zone.

My shop is tight and the warehouse next door is very close, where do we put the compressor and condenser?

We may mount the compressor and condenser on the roof or an external wall away from intakes, depending on the building's structure. We survey the site before designing.

Our street is narrow and difficult for heavy equipment access, how do you solve this?

We assess access before installation and carry parts by hand if needed, or agree an alternative entrance closer to the room location.

Do we need electricity and water connections near the room location?

Yes, the compressor needs a strong dedicated circuit, and water drainage must be nearby. We check existing connections and recommend any necessary additions.
