Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Ruhaili is a relatively modern district with medium to large residential and commercial buildings and regular outdoor space, making room installation straightforward in ground floors or dedicated storage. The many butchers and poultry shops here need tight rooms with very precise temperature control, whilst restaurants use varying sizes. The semi-desert location, slightly inland from the coast, means harsh summer heat and wide daily swings, so we focus on strong insulation and enhanced cooling.

Al Ruhaili is in north-east Jeddah in a semi-desert location, a modern district with medium to large buildings.

Most butcher and poultry shops in Al Ruhaili choose rooms with very low temperatures between −18 and −20 °C with precise humidity monitoring.

The AC setup in Al Ruhaili

  1. 1

Powerful freezer room at very low temperatures

Butcher and poultry shops in Al Ruhaili need rooms reaching −20 °C with very thick insulation and powerful cooling.

  2. 2

    Enhanced drainage for high moisture

The moisture from meat and blood requires an advanced drainage system with insulated pipes and multiple floor outlets.

  3. 3

Superpowered cooling unit against desert heat

The harsh desert heat requires very high-capacity condensers and enhanced ventilation, and we usually choose a shaded location or add extra solar protection.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Ruhaili

  1. 1

Pinpoint the shop location, storage and drainage

Before the visit, give us the exact dimensions of the location and where the drain outlet will be (floor or channel), and where the nearest electrical supply is.

  2. 2

Ensure the outdoor unit can go in a shaded spot

The intense heat demands the condenser in a shaded spot or under cover. Choose a location before the visit away from direct sun.

  3. 3

Brief the team on goods type (meat or poultry)

Tell us if the shop specialises in meat, poultry or both, as this affects insulation level and drainage system type.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

A butcher shop needs very low freezing, will the room stay stable?

Yes, we design specialised rooms for butcher shops with very precise temperature control systems. We install an advanced thermostat and enhanced defrost that maintains the exact temperature you need.

The intense heat and dryness in Al Ruhaili, will the insulation be enough?

The heat here is very harsh. We choose reinforced insulation with extra thickness and install high-capacity cooling units. We also advise opening the door only when necessary.

The meat and blood moisture may affect the room, how do you protect it?

We install enhanced drainage and strong ventilation to handle the high moisture from meat and blood. We add extra drain outlets in the floor and walls.

Summer is long in Al Ruhaili, are regular maintenance periods essential?

Yes, during the long summer here we advise checking the system monthly: clean the condenser of dust, check refrigerant levels and inspect for leaks. The details are written in your service agreement.
