Who needs a specialist freezer room?

  1. 1

    Stock that needs sub-zero cold

Meat, poultry, fish and ice cream spoil if the temperature rises even briefly above the required level. A freezer room is built to hold that level continuously, not simply to cool.

  2. 2

    One room, two temperature zones

Large restaurants and hotels usually need a chiller section and a freezer section side by side. We build both wings with separate insulation, independent refrigeration units and an insulated inner door, so neither zone affects the other's temperature.

  3. 3

    Expanding an existing facility

If your current cold room no longer holds all your stock, or you need to add a freezer section beside it, we survey the site and propose the most practical way to expand with as little disruption to your operation as possible.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

We visit the site, learn the stock type and required temperature, measure the available space, and decide the right insulation thickness and refrigeration system from what we find.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We draw the room layout including pipe and cable routes, then have the panels, doors and equipment ready before installation begins.

  3. 3

    Installation and connection

We fit the panels, insulated floor and door, then run and insulate the copper pipes, vacuum the line and pressure-test it before starting the system. Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints where the layout calls for it.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the system and watch the room reach its target temperature, confirm the defrost cycle works and the door seals properly, then explain the controls to the person responsible for the facility.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Shifa is a relatively modern commercial and residential district with medium-rise buildings and diverse trades, from small restaurants and retail shops to limited-service hotels. Commercial spaces are reasonable here, but proximity to Jeddah's coast means very high humidity and intense summer heat. These conditions require strong insulation and efficient drainage to maintain temperature stability.

Al Shifa lies in south Jeddah, a relatively modern zone mixing small hotels, restaurants and shops.

Freezer rooms in Al Shifa serve hotels, restaurants and retailers, and need strong drainage systems to handle high coastal humidity.

The AC setup in Al Shifa

  1. 1

Medium-size freezer room for small restaurants and shops

Restaurants and shops in Al Shifa are usually mid-size, so we design rooms that fit reasonable spaces without waste or excess tightness.

  2. 2

Enhanced drainage system for coastal proximity

Coastal proximity and high humidity in Al Shifa increase condensation, so we install robust drainage that pushes water out effectively.

  3. 3

Heated door protected from humidity freeze

Coastal humidity increases door freeze risk, so we choose a heated door with a protection system that prevents sticking and icing.

Before the visit

  1. 1

Identify available location for the outdoor unit

Survey your shop and identify the best location for the outdoor unit (roof, rear wall, corner), and tell us about any access constraints.

  2. 2

    Provide adequate electrical supply

Confirm you have a dedicated electrical circuit with sufficient power for the compressor, or let us know if you need a new circuit installed.

  3. 3

Clarify your temperature needs and stock type

Tell us what you will store (meat, fish, beverages) and the temperatures needed, and whether you need one zone or more than one.

FAQ

Questions about Cold & freezer room installation

Why does a freezer room need an insulated floor when a chiller often does not?

At sub-zero temperatures the moisture held in a concrete slab freezes and expands, cracking tiles and lifting bases over time. A chiller room operates above freezing, so ice crystals do not form in the slab. A freezer room therefore requires insulated panels under the floor together with a vapour barrier that blocks rising ground heat and protects the structure over the long term.

What is the difference between electric defrost and other types?

Electric defrost uses heating elements fixed inside the evaporator coil; they warm the coil directly and melt frost build-up. Hot-gas defrost instead redirects warm refrigerant from the compressor back through the same coil. The choice between the two depends on room size, the required number of cycles and the type of goods stored; the site survey determines which method suits each installation.

Can two zones at different temperatures share the same footprint?

Yes. A partition of insulated panels separates the space, with each side using a panel thickness matched to its required temperature differential. Each zone has its own refrigeration unit and a door with a heated frame to prevent condensation. This arrangement is widely used in meat and fish facilities that need a chiller zone for short-term stock and a freezer zone for longer storage. The final design depends on the available floor area and the heat load of each section.

Does the position of the condensing unit affect how the freezer room performs?

Position has a direct effect. The condensing unit needs clean air and adequate flow to reject heat; if it is placed in a confined space or near heat sources the condensing pressure rises and the compressor works harder. In Jeddah, outdoor air also carries salt and dust that accumulate on the condenser coil over time. The site survey identifies the best location and the copper-pipe route, keeping each Mueller copper pipe run within thirty metres without welded joints.

My small Al Shifa restaurant needs a freezer room, is tight space a problem?

No, we design freezer rooms in different sizes to match available space. Even small restaurants and tight shops can fit one without structural issues.

Does the high humidity here affect the room itself, not just the compressor?

Yes, high coastal humidity causes heavy condensation on walls and floors, so we choose moisture-resistant building materials and install a very strong drainage system.

My small hotel wants one room for everything (meat, fish, beverages), is that possible?

It is possible, but a single temperature may not preserve each type optimally. We can design one room at a middle temperature, or suggest two separate zones for best results.

The outdoor unit, where do I put it in my narrow shop?

Options depend on your shop layout: roof, rear wall or a corner away from the street. We visit to inspect and suggest the best placement.
