New cold room build

Cold room installation in Harat Al Bahar

Cold room installation in Harat Al Bahar, old downtown Jeddah, needs special handling for coastal humidity and the tightly packed older buildings. We size the room to your load, fit well-insulated panels to protect contents from moisture, and choose robust condensing units, delivering a sealed room that holds steady from day one.

Who needs a new cold room?

  1. 1

Restaurant or bakery expanding its store

Your current storage cannot hold the quantities you need, or you are relying on domestic fridges that are not up to the job. A purpose-built cold room keeps ingredients at a steady temperature and cuts waste caused by temperature swings.

  2. 2

Pharmacy or clinic needing medical storage

Medicines, vaccines and sensitive medical supplies need a temperature that does not shift when the door opens or when Jeddah's summer heat peaks. We build the room to suit that use and choose the condensing unit after the site survey.

  3. 3

Warehouse or grocery starting from scratch

You are fitting out your premises and want a cold room built in from the start, or you want to convert part of a warehouse into one. The site, the daily stock volume and how often the door opens all shape the right specification, and we work that out with you at the survey.

Who it's for

  • Opening a bakery and need ingredient storage

We survey your allocated space and build a cold room sized to your daily production volume, from insulated panels to the temperature controller.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Site survey

The technician visits, measures the available space and asks about your stock type, quantities and daily use to set the room dimensions and the capacity the unit needs.

  2. 2

    Panels and door

We fit the insulated wall and ceiling panels and seal every joint, then hang the cold room door in its frame and check that the seal presses evenly on all four sides.

  3. 3

    Cooling unit and pipework

We mount the condensing unit where it has enough air, fit the evaporator inside the room, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints, fully insulated to reduce heat gain.

  4. 4

    Vacuum, start-up, handover

We vacuum the copper line and test joints before starting the unit, then set the temperature controller and confirm the room reaches the target temperature before handing over.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Harat Al Bahar is an old district of very tightly packed buildings mixing retail shops, small warehouses, restaurants and older hotels, many of which rely on cold rooms to preserve food, beverages and ingredients. High coastal humidity and daily temperature swings make insulation and seal integrity critical, so we choose premium insulation materials and tightly sealing doors. The very limited space also means we design efficient compact rooms that fit into corners and narrow passages.

Harat Al Bahar sits in historic downtown Jeddah near the waterfront, a district of closely packed older buildings housing small shops, hotels and restaurants.

Most cold rooms here are very small, 1 to 4 cubic metres, because of the extremely tight spaces and limited ceiling heights in the old buildings.

The AC setup in Harat Al Bahar

  1. 1

Very compact room in a corner or under stairs

The very tight old spaces may allow only 1 to 2 cubic metre rooms; we fit these precisely into corners or under stairs without compromising the building structure.

  2. 2

Outdoor unit on wall or small balcony

Roofs are limited in old buildings, so we mount outdoor units on strong external walls or small balconies, ensuring no nuisance to neighbours.

  3. 3

Precise condensate drainage for coastal moisture

We design dedicated drain lines to collect condensate and route it away from the building foundations and neighbouring shops.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Harat Al Bahar

  1. 1

    Measure the exact available space

Take precise measurements (width, length, height) of the planned location, and tell us about any pillars or pipes in the way.

  2. 2

Coordinate with the shop or hotel owner

Inform the shop or hotel owner of the installation plan and expected dates, as the work may briefly affect shop hours or hotel operations.

  3. 3

Confirm the outdoor unit location is safe

Pinpoint exactly where the outdoor unit will go, and confirm it is away from the narrow streets and safe from damage or strong wind exposure.

FAQ

Questions about Cold room installation

How is the right cold room size worked out?

Size depends on the type and quantity of stock, how often fresh goods come in and how many times the door opens each day. These factors together set the dimensions and the cooling unit capacity needed, which is why we do not suggest a size before the site visit.

Where does the condensing unit go in a restaurant or warehouse?

The condensing unit needs enough air around it, distance from heat sources and a spot a technician can reach for servicing. We decide the best location at the site survey based on the building layout and how the space is used.

What happens to my stock if the power to the room cuts out?

A well-insulated room with a tight door holds its cold for a limited time if the door stays shut, and longer the thicker the insulation and the better the seal. So we choose the panel thickness and the door seal with care, and set the controller to raise an alarm when the temperature rises, so you can act before stock spoils.

What is the difference between this room and a freezer room?

A chiller room works above freezing and suits vegetables, medicines, dairy and baked goods. A freezer room works below freezing and needs thicker insulation, an insulated floor, a heated door frame and a defrost system. If you need freezing or a combined room, we offer that as a dedicated service.

Can a cold room be installed in a rented space without major structural changes?

In most cases yes. Insulated panels are assembled inside the existing space without demolition or construction work, and the condensing unit is fixed in a suitable spot the technician identifies at the survey. Ceiling type and building ventilation may affect the details, and we confirm those after seeing the site.

My building is very old, can it take the weight of the cold room and outdoor unit?

We inspect the building structure and foundations before installation, and place the outdoor unit where its weight is safely distributed without straining the old walls.

The streets are extremely narrow, how will you get the materials and units in?

We disassemble the units and panels into smaller pieces that can be carried in by hand, and coordinate with the shop owner for the closest safe parking point.

Sea humidity will get in the room, will it cause mould or damage?

Coastal humidity is very high, so we choose moisture-resistant insulation and very tight-sealing doors, and design precise drain routes for condensate to prevent water pooling.

The shop's old wiring, can the cooling unit run on it?

We inspect the existing wiring and calculate the unit's load; if the supply is inadequate, we recommend reinforcing it or installing a dedicated new circuit breaker for the unit.
