Cold rooms kept running

Cold rooms in Al Harrah

In Al Harrah, east of Jeddah, warehouses, hotels and restaurants depend on sealed cold rooms. We diagnose why temperature drops and support the evaporator, condenser and sensor to keep the set temperature stable.

When your cold room needs attention

  1. 1

    Room not holding temperature

The temperature climbs slowly even though the unit keeps running, or the products inside are warmer than they should be. The cause could be the evaporator, condensing unit, refrigerant level or controller, and only a site check tells which.

  2. 2

    Evaporator icing up and stopping

Ice builds on the evaporator until airflow stops and cooling fails. The cause is usually in the defrost circuit, its sensor or the evaporator fan. Jeddah's humid air speeds up icing when anything in that circuit is not working correctly.

  3. 3

    Door letting cold air escape

A worn or deformed door seal lets warm humid air in, overloading the refrigeration unit and speeding up evaporator icing. If the door frame heater has failed, moisture builds on the frame and the door becomes hard to open.

Who it's for

  • Running a restaurant or central kitchen cold room

We check the evaporator, defrost circuit and door seal in your kitchen cold room and fix any fault before your food stock is put at risk.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

WhatsApp us what you see: the temperature showing on the controller, whether the unit is running or not, and the type of stock inside the room.

  2. 2

    Site check and diagnosis

The technician checks the evaporator, condensing unit, defrost circuit, controller and door seal, then identifies the actual cause of the temperature loss before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and replacement

We fix what the diagnosis found: clean the evaporator, repair the defrost circuit, replace the seal or adjust the refrigerant charge to the type written on the unit nameplate.

  4. 4

    Test and handover

We run the room and watch the temperature until it reaches the set value, confirm the alarm and controller are working, then hand you a report of what was done.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Harrah is a relatively older district with numerous food warehouses, restaurants and small hotels mixed with dense residential blocks, and many old commercial buildings have not been fully upgraded. Older buildings may need improved electrical distribution to run cold rooms efficiently, and extreme coastal heat and humidity put the condenser under relentless high pressure.

Al Harrah lies in east Jeddah, a relatively older district of warehouses, restaurants, small hotels and dense residential blocks.

Cold rooms in Al Harrah range from 10 to 30 cubic metres, and many have outdoor units mounted on old walls or tight corners that may need reinforcement.

The AC setup in Al Harrah

  1. 1

Multiple cold rooms in older warehouses

Older food warehouses in Al Harrah may have two or three separate rooms with legacy control systems that may need updating.

  2. 2

    Outdoor units on old walls

Most outdoor units are mounted on old walls that need regular inspection and reinforcement to remain safe.

  3. 3

Copper pipes exposed to coastal corrosion

Copper pipes in Al Harrah are heavily exposed to corrosion from high humidity and salt in the coastal air.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Harrah

  1. 1

Check the wall and mounting before the visit

If the outdoor unit is on an old wall, confirm the wall is strong enough and tell us about any visible issues.

  2. 2

    Ensure adequate power supply

Confirm the room's circuit breaker works properly and the current is sufficient to run the unit.

  3. 3

Safe access to the outdoor unit and pipes

Confirm the team can safely reach the outdoor unit and copper pipes, especially if they are on an old wall.

FAQ

Questions about Cold rooms

Why does the temperature rise even though the unit runs all the time?

Continuous running does not mean correct operation. Common causes include a refrigerant leak that reduces the charge, heavy frost on the evaporator coil blocking airflow, or a fault in the rooftop condensing unit raising head pressure. A site survey identifies the actual cause before any work begins.

How do I know if the defrost cycle is working properly?

Clear signs of a defrost fault include thick frost covering the full evaporator coil, a gradual temperature rise while the unit keeps running, and water pooling on the floor instead of draining away. The check covers the heater element, the defrost sensor and the controller, as the fault can lie in any of these parts.

What does a preventive visit for a cold room cover?

A preventive visit covers a pressure check on the refrigeration circuit, cleaning the condenser and evaporator coils, inspecting door seals and frame heaters, testing the controller and alarm, and checking copper pipe connections. The aim is to find a developing fault before it affects the room temperature and the stock inside.

What is the difference between a preventive visit and a repair visit?

A preventive visit is carried out on a unit that is running normally: the purpose is inspection, cleaning and finding early signs of wear before they become a breakdown. A repair visit is requested when an actual fault appears, such as a rising temperature, a stopped compressor or excessive coil icing. Diagnosis comes first, then the required work is defined.

Does Jeddah's rooftop heat affect the condensing unit's performance?

Yes. In summer, Jeddah rooftop surfaces reach very high temperatures, which raises condensing pressure, stresses the compressor and reduces cooling capacity. Regular cleaning of the condenser coil to remove the dust and salt that cling to the fins is essential, not optional. A site survey determines whether the unit's position or the airflow around it is making the problem worse.

My building is old and the wiring is weak, does it affect the cold room?

Yes, weak power can prevent the condenser from working at full capacity. We check the power supply strength and safety breakers before running the unit.

The old wall may not hold the outdoor unit, how do you install it safely?

We first assess the wall's strength, and if needed we use extra fasteners or advise wall reinforcement before mounting.

Does the humidity and extreme heat in Al Harrah weaken the copper pipes?

Yes, high coastal humidity and extreme heat accelerate corrosion and leaks in copper lines. We regularly inspect the pipes and joints and reinforce seals to prevent leaks.

The room loses temperature fast and I fear the unit is broken, what will it cost?

The cost depends on what is wrong, the unit type and the copper run length. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will give you an exact quote.
