When your display fridge needs attention

  1. 1

    Glass fogs or sweats

In Jeddah's humid air and air-conditioned shops, moisture collects on the door glass or thick frost builds up. The cause is usually the door frame heater resistance or the door seal; the site decides which.

  2. 2

    Stock spoiling or uneven temperatures

If upper shelves are warmer than lower ones, or open multideck zones read outside the required range, a fan fault or blocked cold-air path is likely. We measure shelf temperatures along the cabinet and find where the fault lies.

  3. 3

Hot condenser in a poorly cooled shop

A display cabinet throws a lot of heat into the shop floor. When the shop's cooling is insufficient, the condenser air temperature rises, the compressor works harder and the cabinet loses its chill. The fix starts with assessing the cabinet's location and the ventilation around it.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp a photo of the cabinet, your district and a brief description of the problem; the team can prepare the right tools before the visit.

  2. 2

    Site survey and measurement

The technician measures shelf temperatures, inspects the condenser, fans, air curtain and door seals, and reviews the ventilation around the cabinet before touching anything.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis and explanation

After measuring we tell you exactly what is wrong and what needs to be done, and you approve the work before the technician starts.

  4. 4

    Repair and verify

We fix the fault, then re-measure shelf temperatures and verify the air curtain, lighting and fans before leaving the shop.

What sets this district apart

Al Mahjar is a mixed commercial district blending small and medium shops, restaurants and hotels, many relying on display fridges to sell beverages, pastries, frozen meat and fish. The southern heat and coastal humidity put extra strain on the condenser and fans, and dust and salt in the air clog the vents faster than elsewhere. Monthly or bi-monthly servicing keeps the air curtain working and stops fogging on the glass and rapid temperature loss.

Al Mahjar lies on Jeddah's southern coast, a mixed zone of small and medium shops, restaurants and hotels spread across wider streets.

Most shops and restaurants here use individual display units, typically one to three per outlet, placed in the storefront or internal aisles.

The AC setup in Al Mahjar

  1. 1

    Individual vertical display cabinets

Most shops and restaurants use separate vertical display cabinets in various capacities, positioned in the storefront to attract customers.

  2. 2

Horizontal frozen display units in restaurants and hotels

Restaurants and hotels use horizontal freezer units for appetisers, pastries and frozen drinks, needing deeper servicing due to heavier use.

  3. 3

Outdoor cooling units exposed to coastal air

Outdoor condensers and fans are directly exposed to salt and humidity from the sea, causing faster corrosion and heavier dust buildup.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Mahjar

  1. 1

Clear space around the fridge for access and measurement

Ensure the area around the display fridge is clear of boxes and stock to allow our team to inspect the condenser and fans and take measurements.

  2. 2

Close the fridge and reduce use before we visit

If possible, reduce fridge use half an hour before our visit to stabilise the internal temperature and get accurate readings.

  3. 3

    Check the outdoor condenser location

Confirm that the condenser's outdoor location (shop roof or back yard) is safe and easily accessible before the visit.

FAQ

Questions about Display fridges & chillers

Why does thick frost build up on open multideck shelves?

An open multideck relies on a cold air curtain to keep shop air out. If the fan weakens or nearby AC airflow deflects the curtain, shop humidity enters the cabinet and frost builds. We check fan speed, air curtain direction and temperature at several points along the cabinet to find exactly where the fault is.

Does shop temperature affect how the display fridge performs?

Yes, and in Jeddah this is more noticeable in summer when the heat load rises. The condenser rejects heat into shop air; when that air is warm, the compressor works harder and shelf temperatures rise. We assess the cabinet's position and its distance from AC supply diffusers as part of the survey.

The cabinet lighting is dim or flickering; is that something you handle?

Yes, cabinet lighting is part of the service. Internal lighting matters to how your product looks, and a wiring fault there can affect other circuits. We check the wiring and driver and replace the faulty component as part of the job.

My display fridge is an unfamiliar brand; can you still work on it?

Display cabinet faults are mostly common across brands: refrigeration circuit, fan, air curtain, door seal, frame heater. We diagnose by measurement, not by brand. If a replacement part is needed we tell you before going further and you decide.

Can a new display cabinet be installed in an existing shop?

Yes, but the site decides what is needed. We assess the electrical supply, drain route and cabinet position relative to AC diffusers before installation; where the cabinet sits affects the air curtain and the shop's overall cooling load. The survey sets out exactly what is required before any work begins.

My display fridge glass keeps fogging up, what can I do?

Glass fogging usually means the air curtain is not running at full strength or the condenser is clogged with dust and salt from the coastal air. Our team cleans the condenser and fans and adjusts the air curtain flow to restore clarity.

My shop's parking is tight, how do you get the equipment in?

Most Al Mahjar shops sit on reasonably wide streets, and we carry cleaning and diagnostic tools in by hand without needing heavy equipment.

It gets very hot here in summer, does that affect the fridge performance?

Yes, the extreme heat and coastal humidity greatly increase the load on the condenser, so cleaning the condenser and fans every four to six weeks in summer ensures the fridge does not overheat.

The shelves in my fridge have uneven temperatures, some items thaw while others stay frozen?

Uneven shelf temperatures mean air distribution is blocked or the temperature sensors need recalibration. Our team measures each shelf and corrects the airflow and sensors to rebalance them.
