Clean ducts, no broken ceilings
AC duct cleaning in Harat Al Yemen
In Harat Al Yemen in historic downtown Jeddah, old mixed-use buildings and small flats contain diverse, crowded AC systems. Dust and debris from narrow streets accumulate in distribution ducts and reduce fresh air, and Alrabih's team cleans ducts through existing openings without disrupting the structure.
- No ceiling damage
- Return-box clean

When your home ducts need cleaning
- 1
Cool air that carries dust
You turn the AC on and see a puff of dust from the grilles settling on surfaces. The cause is usually buildup on the inner duct walls, not just the grille face, and wiping the grille alone does not fix it.
- 2
A smell when the AC runs
A smell appears the moment you start the AC, then fades or lingers in the room. The source is often moisture in the return-air box or organic matter in a branch duct, and mechanical cleaning is the first step before any other treatment.
- 3
A concealed unit that has run for years
Concealed or ceiling-hidden units often run for years without the duct network being opened. In Jeddah's dusty, humid air, dust and moisture bind together and cake inside branch ducts, reducing how evenly the air distributes through the rooms.
Who it's for
Living in a villa with ceiling-concealed AC units
We survey the branch duct layout on each floor and clean the grilles and return-air box through existing access points without touching the ceiling finish or walls.
Ask on WhatsAppTaking over an older flat with ducts never cleaned
We start with a survey of the return-air box and branch ducts to assess the buildup, then clean the full network including the return box before you move in.

How we work
How we work
- 1
Survey the network
The technician checks the branch duct layout, available access points and the return-air box to plan the cleaning method that suits your network without breaking any ceiling.
- 2
Protect the room
Before removing any grille we cover furniture and floors so that loosened dust does not fall on the room contents while we work.
- 3
Clean ducts and return box
We remove deposits from branch ducts through access points and open grille positions, then clean the return-air box where most of the heavy dust settles before reaching the unit.
- 4
Refit and test
We refit all grilles, run the unit and check that air reaches each room evenly, then leave the space clean when we finish.
Proper cleaning or just wiping the grilles?
| Alrabih | The usual way | |
|---|---|---|
| Branch ducts | Cleaned inside through access points | Left untouched beyond the grille |
| Return-air box | Deposit fully removed | Left with its dust |
| Ceiling finish | No damage at all | Sometimes broken for access |
| Furniture | Fully covered before we start | Left exposed to falling dust |
| Dust during the job | Room covered before opening | Falls on furniture and floors |

What sets this district apart
Harat Al Yemen is a historic neighbourhood of old closely built blocks with shops and storage downstairs and small flats above. Most of these flats were not designed for central AC, relying on multiple split units or old window units, and some have basic ceiling ducts added later. Dust and salt from the markets and narrow streets accumulate quickly in any existing ducts, cutting airflow and natural ventilation.
Harat Al Yemen sits in historic downtown Jeddah, an old district of closely built blocks around popular markets and narrow streets.
Most flats here have separate split units or old window units, and some have very basic ducts in drop ceilings.
The AC setup in Harat Al Yemen
- 1
Separate split units in small flats
Most flats have split units connected directly without unified ducts, though some may have basic ceiling ducts.
- 2
Old window units still in use
Some flats still have old window units that require no ducts, and cleaning their filters improves performance.
- 3
Basic ducts in some recently fitted flats
Some flats have had very simple ducts added to new drop ceilings, and these need careful cleaning due to easy blockage.

FAQ
Questions about AC duct cleaning
Can you clean ducts without opening the false ceiling?
In most homes we work through the room grilles and existing access points without touching the ceiling. If the network is fully sealed with no access, the technician explains at the survey what can be reached and whether anything extra is needed.
Is cleaning the room grilles enough on its own?
Cleaning the grilles improves appearance, but most of the buildup is inside the branch ducts and the return-air box. Grille cleaning alone does not address what the airflow carries out, so our work covers the grille, the duct and the return box together.
Do we need to leave the house while you clean and sanitise?
Usually not. We work room by room, cover furniture and floors, and vacuum the dust straight out of the duct so it does not spread through the house. If anyone at home is sensitive to dust or smells, we suggest they stay out of the room we are working in until it is finished and aired.
What if one room still gets less air than the others after cleaning?
Low airflow to one room after cleaning may point to a restriction in that branch duct or a damper that is not set correctly. The technician checks this during the final run and tells you the cause and next step, whether that is a damper adjustment or something else.
Does duct cleaning improve how evenly the cold air spreads across rooms?
Heavy buildup inside a branch duct narrows its cross-section and reduces the air reaching that room. Removing the deposit restores the original opening and improves distribution. If a difference between rooms remains after cleaning, the cause may be a damper position or the network design, and the technician explains this during the final check.
Markets and narrow streets increase dust, is duct cleaning important here?
Very much so, dust and salt enter ducts faster than in modern areas, and cleaning markedly improves indoor air quality.
Buildings are old and closely built, how do you bring equipment to the flats?
We carry tools manually through narrow passages and stairs, and coordinate with residents on working times that don't clash with shop hours below.
Flats are old and ducts are very basic, does cleaning help?
Yes, even basic ducts collect dirt and mould, and cleaning improves ventilation and comfort inside the flat.
Water and drainage may be weak in old buildings, does that affect ducts?
Leakage and moisture from old pipes may affect ducts and ceilings, so we inspect for signs before and after cleaning.
