Industrial cooling done right

Factory HVAC in Al Andalus

In Al Andalus, west Jeddah, light and artisanal factories sit amid older residential areas and popular markets, needing balanced cooling that delivers efficiency without noise or neighbour disruption. Alrabih designs quiet, neighbourly systems for mixed residential-industrial zones.

When does a factory need a specialist system?

  1. 1

    Machine heat exhausting the workers

Compressors, motors and furnaces push out steady heat that scattered split units cannot handle. We assess every heat source on site and design a system that removes that heat and delivers cooled air precisely where people work.

  2. 2

A high roof that traps hot air

Hot air rises and collects under the roof while workers suffer at floor level. Evaporator positions, airflow angles and unit sizing all depend on the ceiling height and building shape, and the site survey decides each of these.

  3. 3

    Production dust destroying equipment

In wood, metal and plastic factories, coarse dust enters units and damages compressors and coils. We select equipment suited to industrial environments and design air paths that separate cooling air from contaminated process air wherever possible.

Who it's for

  • Building a new factory that needs HVAC

We join at design stage to fix unit positions, duct routes and extraction before the roof is cast and machines are installed, so the system is built into the structure from the start.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Industrial site survey

Our team visits the factory during operation to measure actual heat from machines, map worker zones and critical processes, record ceiling heights and identify possible duct routes.

  2. 2

    System design

We design central plant, distributed units or a combination to suit the factory, and fix the positions of extraction and ventilation units, duct sizes and damper locations before you approve the work.

  3. 3

    Fabrication and installation

We fabricate duct in our own workshop from G90 galvanised or aluminium sheet to SMACNA standards, run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints, mount units and insulate pipework with Armaflex and Kimmco materials.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and scheduled maintenance

We commission the system, check airflow distribution, refrigerant pressure and damper balance, then set up a preventive and corrective maintenance contract timed to fit around your production shifts.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Al Andalus buildings vary from warehouses and small workshops to commercial shops with moderate ceiling heights, and the nearness to homes means noise, odour and exhaust air need careful control. Buildings sometimes share walls with residential units, demanding thorough fume filtration and sound isolation. The near-coastal location brings higher humidity and salt air, accelerating metal and coil corrosion.

Al Andalus is a mixed zone in west Jeddah, with light factories and residential buildings near older markets close to the coast.

Most workshops and light factories here use split or semi-central units with mid-range filters and extra sound insulation.

The AC setup in Al Andalus

  1. 1

    Low-noise split unit

Workshops and light factories here rely on quiet split units mounted on flexible supports to minimise noise and vibration transmission to the building.

  2. 2

Strong filtration for fumes and odours

Craft and production activities near homes need multi-stage filters to remove fumes and odours before they reach the outside air.

  3. 3

Protection from coastal salt and humidity

Proximity to the coast means salt-resistant materials, coated piping, and controlled drainage to prevent rapid rust and corrosion.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Andalus

  1. 1

Verify outdoor unit location away from neighbour windows

Before we visit, confirm the proposed location is away from adjoining flat windows, and let us know if neighbours have raised concerns.

  2. 2

Tell us what activities and fumes are involved

Describe the processes and fumes produced so we can select effective filters and a safe discharge location.

  3. 3

    Coordinate with neighbours about installation

It helps to inform neighbours of the installation date in advance, especially if the work involves drilling or mounting on a shared wall.

FAQ

Questions about Factory HVAC

Can you cool just the worker zones without cooling the whole factory?

Yes, and we do it often. We design spot cooling for workstations or worker walkways using independent units or directed duct runs, rather than trying to cool the entire building volume. The right approach depends on the site and the process, and the survey decides it.

How do you handle heavy industrial dust in Jeddah?

We select units with a protection rating suited to the industrial environment and route airflow away from dust sources where the layout allows. In scheduled maintenance we inspect and clean coils, compressors and filters before deposits build up and affect unit performance.

Do you fabricate the large ducts a factory needs?

Yes, in our own workshop we fabricate round and rectangular duct to any size the design calls for, from G90 galvanised or aluminium sheet to SMACNA standards, including plenums, transitions and dampers needed to control air distribution.

Can you do maintenance between production shifts?

Yes, when we set up the preventive maintenance contract we agree times that fit your production schedule, whether between shifts or on rest days. The aim is that production lines are never stopped because of maintenance work.

What is the difference between process ventilation and worker-zone air conditioning?

Process ventilation targets heat and fumes produced by machinery and production lines, using exhaust fans and calculated fresh-air inlets sized to the heat load at each source. Worker-zone air conditioning aims to maintain a tolerable temperature at floor level without cooling the full volume of the building. A site survey of each factory decides which approach fits each area.

AC noise disturbs neighbours in adjoining flats, how do we reduce it?

We select low-noise units and mount them on flexible supports that absorb vibration, and may add a soundproof enclosure around the outdoor unit.

Salt humidity from the coast affects the units, how do we protect the piping?

We use copper piping coated with salt-resistant paint, and design drainage points so stagnant water does not accumulate and cause corrosion.

The outdoor unit will be near our neighbour's window, is that a problem?

Yes, we verify ventilation directions and choose a location away from neighbour windows if possible, or add a discharge deflector to redirect warm air away.

Can we mount the outdoor unit on the wall instead of the roof?

Possible, but the wall must be sturdy and structurally separate from adjoining residences. We inspect the wall first and confirm safe fixing and that exhaust does not blow toward neighbours.
