When your freezer needs attention

  1. 1

The freezer is not freezing hard

Products feel soft or partly thawed even though the freezer is running. The cause may be the thermostat, the compressor, the refrigerant charge or the temperature sensor circuit. A site diagnosis tells you which one needs fixing.

  2. 2

Ice building up and not defrosting

A thick ice layer on the freezer wall or evaporator points to a fault in the defrost cycle, whether in the defrost heater, timer or sensor. Left alone, the build-up strains the compressor and steadily raises electricity use.

  3. 3

A door that will not seal or a unit that keeps alarming

A worn door gasket lets warm humid air in constantly, building ice and pressing the compressor harder. We check the gasket, the door frame and the alarm switch to find the cause of repeated alarms and put it right.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

Send us the freezer type, the fault you have noticed and your district, and we tell you what the technician will need before the visit.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnosis

The technician checks the compressor, evaporator, defrost circuit and door gasket, then explains what he found and proposes the repair before starting any work.

  3. 3

    Repair and reset

We fix the faulty part, reset the defrost cycle if needed, and test the freeze temperature and alarm after closing the unit.

  4. 4

    Performance check and handover

We confirm the freezer reaches the right freeze temperature and the door closes tightly, then explain how to monitor performance over the next few days.

What sets this district apart

Al Rawdah is a relatively modern district with spacious villas and residential buildings, with regular gaps and organised streets. Most freezers here are small domestic units or display fridges in luxurious villas and flats. High heat and daily use cause ice build-up and compressor strain, and any fault directly affects stored food. Coordinating with villa owners and families is essential because most fridges and freezers sit inside small kitchen or bathroom spaces, accessible but requiring respect for home privacy.

Al Rawdah sits in west Jeddah, a modern district of spacious villas and residential buildings laid out along modern streets.

Most freezers here are small domestic units, large display chillers are rare, and outdoor units are typically mounted on villa facades or back gardens.

Outdoor units are mounted on villa facades or back gardens, often facing direct sun exposure.

  3. 3

Small display fridges in luxury villas

Let us know if the outdoor unit is in the garden, on the front or back facade, so we can coordinate the easiest and quickest access.

  3. 3

Ensure there is power close to the unit

Some older villas may not have a power outlet near the outdoor unit, so check this before our visit.

FAQ

Questions about Freezer maintenance

Can the freezer be repaired without emptying it completely?

It depends on the fault. Checks on the compressor or an external sensor can be done without touching the contents. Repairs to the evaporator or defrost heater need the freezer emptied, and we tell you in advance and advise how to keep the stock in cool boxes while we work.

Why does my freezer compressor never stop running?

Three common causes: a worn door gasket letting warm air in, ice build-up on the evaporator reducing heat transfer, or low refrigerant. The technician checks all three during the visit and identifies the real cause before any repair.

Why does heavy frost keep building up inside my freezer even though the door closes properly?

The most common cause is a fault in the automatic defrost circuit, whether in the heater element, the timer or the temperature sensor. When this circuit fails, ice accumulates on the evaporator coil until airflow is blocked, cooling weakens and energy use rises. The technician identifies the exact cause by testing each component of the circuit in turn.

Do you service both chest and upright freezers?

Yes, we service both types in homes and shops. Chest and upright freezers share many components such as the compressor, evaporator and thermostat, but the defrost cycle design and coil position differ between them, and our technicians are trained to handle that difference in every case.

Does the freezer type, chest or upright, change how the repair is done?

Yes, in some steps. A chest freezer has the evaporator wrapped around the inner walls, while an upright has it at the back of the compartment with a fan. The position of the defrost heater and how to reach it differ between the two, so the technician needs to know the type before the visit to bring the right tools.

Our home freezer doesn't freeze solid; is this a major fault?

It could be ice buildup blocking airflow, compressor weakness, or a small refrigerant leak. We inspect the unit on site and diagnose precisely before repairing.

The outdoor unit is in the back garden; can servicing happen without entering the house?

Yes, if the outdoor unit is in the back garden, we can coordinate for direct access through the side gate, minimising impact on home privacy.

Our home gets very hot and sunny; does this speed up freezer failure?

Yes, direct sun exposure on the house facade raises outdoor coil temperature, speeding up ice build-up and compressor strain. We recommend installing a shade or cover over the outdoor unit.

Power cuts and fluctuations; do these affect the compressor's performance?

Power fluctuations stress the compressor, and we recommend installing a voltage stabiliser to protect the unit from cuts and surges.
