Medical facility HVAC
Hospital HVAC in Al Hamra
In Al Hamra, west Jeddah, where several specialist clinics and small medical centres are interspersed with residential and commercial buildings, medical departments require a flexible system fitting limited space. Alrabih designs systems from each clinic's requirements and site survey, and maintains them without halting medical services.

When you need a medical HVAC specialist
- 1
Hospital or clinic under construction
The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.
- 2
Departments reporting warm air or odours
In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.
- 3
Maintenance contract for a running facility
A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.
Who it's for

How we work
How we work
- 1
Survey and requirements
We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.
- 2
Design and supply
We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.
- 3
Phased coordinated installation
In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.
- 4
Commissioning and follow-up
We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.
Survey-based design or an off-the-shelf solution?

What sets this district apart
Al Hamra clinics are relatively small and dispersed in mixed residential and commercial blocks, some on ground floors and others on upper storeys. Tight spaces and older ceilings make central ductwork difficult, so powerful split units or modified window ACs are the common choice. High coastal humidity and proximity to commercial facilities mean more dust and pollutant buildup. Regular maintenance and clean filters are essential to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, and rapid fault response matters in a small clinic.
Al Hamra is in west Jeddah, a mixed-use area with small clinics and medical centres among residential and commercial premises.
Small Al Hamra clinics typically rely on powerful split units or modified window ACs, since tight spaces and older ceilings prevent central ductwork.
The AC setup in Al Hamra
- 1
Separate split units per department
Al Hamra clinics use separate powerful split units for waiting areas, consulting rooms and operating rooms, each with independent control.
- 2
Upgrading older window units
Some older clinics have window units that can be replaced with newer, more powerful models offering better temperature and humidity control.
- 3
Safe drain standards and precise humidity control
Every split unit needs a safe drain line for condensation and precise thermostat to control humidity, essential in a medical environment.
Before the visit
Before our visit in Al Hamra
- 1
Prepare flat details and electrical circuits
Tell us the building age, ceiling type and current electrical distribution, and confirm a separate electrical circuit is available for each AC unit we plan to install.
- 2
Identify outdoor unit locations on ground or balcony
Confirm safe ground space in front of the flat or a small balcony for outdoor units, and that the location is easy to access for maintenance.
- 3
Coordinate with the clinic owner about installation times
Agree with the clinic owner on installation and maintenance times that do not disrupt medical services, and let us know the clinic's working hours.

FAQ
Questions about Hospital HVAC
How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?
Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.
Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?
Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.
What governs duct network design in a medical building?
Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?
We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.
The clinic is in an old flat, can we install a central system?
Usually no, because tight spaces and old ceilings cannot easily accommodate extended ductwork. The best solution is typically powerful split units distributed across waiting areas and consulting rooms, or upgrading the window AC if present. We visit and suggest the most suitable option.
The clinic is surrounded by shops, does dust affect the AC?
Yes, commercial activity and heavy foot traffic increase dust and pollutant concentration. We fit stronger filters and clean them more frequently. We inspect filters monthly where possible instead of quarterly.
The operating room and consulting rooms are separate, how do you control temperature for each?
We install separate split units for the operating room with precise thermostats, and weaker separate units for consulting and waiting areas. Each unit has its own control, giving flexibility to adjust temperatures per area.
Water and power in this old flat are limited, does that affect AC installation?
Yes, we need sufficient power for the compressor and fan, and a safe drain line for condensation water. We check electrical circuits and pipes before installation. If capacity is limited, we may recommend smaller units or wise power distribution.
