When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

Who it's for

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Mahamid is a modern growth district east of Jeddah, marked by spacious, spread-out buildings with ample parking and gardens. Hospitals and clinics here are typically medium to large with a comfortable horizontal layout allowing easy access and maintenance. The desert environment and dry winds increase system thermal load, and the geographical spread of departments requires long copper runs and complex air distribution systems.

Al Mahamid lies in east Jeddah near main roads, a modern growth district with spacious, developed buildings.

Hospitals in Al Mahamid typically use medium package units or hybrid systems combining independent units for specific departments with central air for corridors and common areas.

The AC setup in Al Mahamid

  1. 1

Hybrid systems with central package units plus additional splits

Medium hospitals in Al Mahamid benefit from a hybrid system providing corridors and common areas from a small central package unit, with separate split units for sensitive departments.

  2. 2

Long ductwork in underground channels or exterior walls

Long distances between departments need ductwork placed in protected underground channels or exterior walls insulated from desert winds and dust.

  3. 3

    Condenser units in wind-protected locations

Dry winds increase evaporation in condensers, so we place external units in protected areas or behind wind breaks.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Mahamid

  1. 1

Complete site survey to map piping and ductwork routes

We need a detailed site survey to determine feasibility of underground or in-wall piping, and avoid existing electrical and water lines.

  2. 2

Assess thermal load and environmental conditions

We assess solar exposure, local winds and desert dust for each hospital department to accurately calculate required capacities.

  3. 3

Plan external unit locations with wind protection

Identify protected locations or propose windbreak solutions for external units, and assess whether they can be positioned near shielding walls.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

How do you handle large distances between departments in Al Mahamid?

We use hybrid systems combining small central package units with additional split units, and distribute ductwork across the longer distances.

Do dry winds and dust increase cooling loads, and how do you manage them?

Yes, desert conditions significantly increase load, so we install higher-capacity units and use high-grade air filters to protect systems from dust.

Can you install copper piping underground or in walls to avoid wind damage?

Yes, in Al Mahamid we prefer routing piping through underground channels or within walls to protect it from wind and dust exposure.

What is the difference between a hybrid system and full central?

A hybrid system combines central air for common areas with separate units for specific departments like theatres and care, offering better flexibility and lower maintenance costs.
