When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

Who it's for

  • Building a new hospital or medical centre

We survey the building early and design systems to each department's requirements before installation begins.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Rahmaniyah is an expanding eastern district with government and private hospitals plus specialist clinics, most in modern buildings with large sun-exposed facades. Intense heat and direct solar radiation increase cooling load, especially on east and south-facing walls. Theatre and ICU need high-capacity systems with fine control, and regular maintenance and coil and filter cleaning are essential to cope with dust and heat.

Al Rahmaniyah is in east Jeddah, an expanding district with modern hospitals and specialist clinics facing direct sun exposure.

High-capacity centralised systems with multi-stage cooling coils are standard in hospitals in this hot region.

The AC setup in Al Rahmaniyah

  1. 1

High-capacity centralised system for extreme heat

Hospitals in Al Rahmaniyah use powerful compressors and multi-stage cooling coils to handle solar radiation and sustained heat.

  2. 2

Upgraded air handlers with stronger filters

Each handler has multi-stage premium filters with easy-access cleaning to tackle heavy dust loads.

  3. 3

Strong thermal insulation and solar reflectors on facades

Insulation upgrades and solar reflectors reduce heat ingress into the building, lightening the system load.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Rahmaniyah

  1. 1

Study sun direction and exposed facades

Before the visit, identify east, south and south-east facades exposed to direct sun, and show us existing shade and insulation.

  2. 2

Provide data on peak temperatures and cooling loads

Provide records of peak temperatures and current maximum electrical load to assess if capacity is sufficient.

  3. 3

Ensure safe access to roof and outdoor units

The roof is extremely hot, make sure it is safe to stand on and outdoor units are in safe-access locations for maintenance.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Does the intense sun exposure in Al Rahmaniyah affect cooling performance?

Yes, direct solar radiation significantly increases cooling demand, so we recommend premium insulation for roofs and walls, window reflectors and cooling units with above-standard capacity.

Does the cooling system need special protection from dust and heat in this area?

Yes, we recommend premium filters replaced monthly and coil cleaning every four weeks, with regular compressor and fan checks because dust and extreme heat accelerate wear.

How do you handle sustained high temperatures in the long summer?

We assess the system's peak-load capacity and recommend additional cooling units if needed, and increase maintenance frequency to every two weeks during summer.

What is the expected lifespan of cooling coils and compressors in this hot climate?

In Al Rahmaniyah, expected lifespan is shorter than other areas. Coils may need replacement every five to seven years and compressors every eight to ten years, depending on maintenance quality and insulation.
