When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.
  • An indoor AHU unit connected to round ductwork in a mechanical plant room, exposed concrete ceiling.

What sets this district apart

Hospitals in Al Manarat are contemporary and sprawling, containing multiple intensive care units, isolation wards and parallel operating suites, requiring massive AC systems with several compressors and complex ductwork. Each zone has specific pressure, temperature and humidity ranges: theatres need positive pressure to shield from external contamination, isolation wards need negative pressure to contain any pathogens. Regular maintenance and rapid response to any fault are essential for patient and staff safety.

Al Manarat is in far north Jeddah, a contemporary zone hosting large specialist hospitals, advanced medical centres and their facilities.

Large hospitals here rely on multi-compressor AC systems with separate pressure control for each zone, especially isolation wards and operating suites.

The AC setup in Al Manarat

  1. 1

Multi-compressor system with separate pressure zones

Large hospitals in Al Manarat need multiple distributed compressors covering several departments, with separate pressure controllers for operating theatres, isolation wards and clinics.

  2. 2

Isolated backup compressor for critical departments

Operating and intensive care departments may need a separate backup compressor that activates only if the main compressor fails, ensuring continuous climate control.

  3. 3

Multi-stage filtration with regular air quality monitoring

Advanced filtration removes coastal contaminants and external air, with regular checks to ensure indoor air meets hospital purity standards.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Manarat

  1. 1

Request a complete system map from the hospital

Request an engineering drawing showing all compressors, ducts, departments and outdoor units, as systems here are complex and the map saves significant assessment time.

  2. 2

Agree maintenance times with the hospital maintenance team

Coordinate with the hospital maintenance supervisor to choose times that avoid ongoing surgeries or emergencies, and brief our team on any standing emergency needs.

  3. 3

Check outdoor unit safety and fixings

Before the visit, verify all rooftop outdoor units are secure and stable, especially in wind-exposed areas, and brief our team on any visible damage or corrosion.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

What is the difference between operating theatre and isolation ward climate control?

An operating theatre needs positive pressure (air flows out) to prevent external contaminants entering, whilst an isolation ward needs negative pressure (air enters but does not leave) to contain any viruses or bacteria inside. Our system controls each independently.

Can you maintain the system while the hospital runs at full capacity?

Yes, we schedule routine maintenance during lower-activity periods and work in close coordination with the hospital's maintenance teams. For any emergency, we have temporary backup equipment ready to deploy quickly to keep medical operations running.

Al Manarat is coastal with strong winds, how do you protect the outdoor units?

We install outdoor units with wind-resistant fixings and choose protected roof or ground locations where possible. We inspect fixings and connections regularly as strong winds and sea salt accelerate corrosion.

The number of departments is large with very long duct runs, does this affect performance?

Yes, long ducts reduce air distribution efficiency, so we use stronger compressors and fit pressure compensators at key points. We regularly check airflow and pressure across all departments to ensure each receives the air and control it needs.
