When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Some of our work

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Thuwal is a relatively remote area north of Jeddah with medium-sized clinics and health centres rather than major hospitals, featuring modern buildings and open spaces between facilities. Intense heat and coastal humidity in Thuwal stress cooling systems, especially in summer months. Alrabih's team reaches Thuwal regularly and maintains clinics on a scheduled, organised basis, focusing on preventive work to avoid emergency calls.

Thuwal sits in far north Jeddah on the coast, a remote area with small and medium clinics and scattered residential buildings.

Most clinics here use split units or small central systems rather than the complex networks of major hospitals.

The AC setup in Thuwal

  1. 1

Distributed split systems for small clinics

Small clinics here use separate split units per clinic or department, allowing simpler maintenance and independent control.

  2. 2

Light central systems for medium clinics

Medium clinics may use simple central cooling with minimal ducting, suited to a limited number of rooms.

  3. 3

    Outdoor units on exposed roofs

Roofs here are wide and open to sun and sea air, exposing outdoor units to intense heat and salt spray. We use heavy-duty mounts and frequent maintenance.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Thuwal

  1. 1

Confirm the visit time several hours in advance

Because the drive from central Jeddah to Thuwal is long, confirm the visit time with our team at least one day in advance.

  2. 2

Ensure safe access to roofs and outdoor units

Roofs in Thuwal may be high and exposed to coastal winds, so confirm safe ladders and fall protection are available.

  3. 3

Prepare system details and electrical specifications

Send details of the current system, available voltage and distance from the main power source, so we can verify compatibility and safety.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Do you regularly reach distant clinics in Thuwal?

Yes, we maintain Thuwal clinics on a regular preventive schedule, arranging visit times with clinic managers in advance to ensure continuity of medical services.

The distance is great, how do you handle maintenance emergencies?

We emphasise regular preventive maintenance and inspections to minimise the risk of breakdowns. In an emergency, we respond based on the clinic's importance and which medical services are affected.

Coastal humidity here is very high, does it affect medical equipment and medicines?

Yes, coastal humidity in Thuwal demands tight control of temperature and relative humidity to protect medicines and sensitive equipment. We clean condenser coils regularly and monitor dehumidification levels.

Electrical lines here may be far from the main generator, is that a problem?

We inspect voltage and electrical runs before installation. If voltage is unstable, we recommend a voltage stabiliser or backup generator to protect the system.
