When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.
  • A grid of round diffusers in an open-plan office ceiling, mid-construction.
  • An insulated rooftop duct elbow, against a mountainous backdrop.
  • Large insulated ductwork running along a factory ceiling, with workers visible below.
  • A yellow round diffuser mid-installation, with spiral duct and a suspended ceiling grid.
  • Duct insulation wrap in progress on a construction site, bare duct still exposed.
  • A black-painted duct trunk with round diffusers and track lighting, in a finished retail interior.

What sets this district apart

Al Muzaira'ah mixes residential buildings with small to medium clinics and hospitals, so most medical facilities here are not large but are complex, hosting several specialties in one building. The district's planning varies with sometimes limited space for outdoor units, and coordinating with residential neighbours is essential during installation or maintenance. Medical buildings here are newer than old Jeddah but some are older buildings converted to medical use.

Al Muzaira'ah is a middle-distance district north Jeddah with residential buildings and hospitals and specialist clinics at moderate density.

Cooling systems here vary: some are small central units serving multiple departments, others are separate split units where buildings are older or space is tight.

The AC setup in Al Muzaira'ah

  1. 1

Split units for small clinics in older buildings

For small clinics or older buildings, we install individual split units per department or room for easy installation and upkeep.

  2. 2

    Small central multi-zone system

Larger clinics and hospitals use a single central cooling unit with separate zones and independent controls for each specialty.

  3. 3

    Sound barriers around outdoor units

Outdoor units in residential areas sometimes need sound barriers, especially if they are near windows or balconies of homes.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Muzaira'ah

  1. 1

Confirm safe access to outdoor units

If the outdoor unit is on a shared roof or common balcony, make sure the team can access it safely without disturbing residents.

  2. 2

Coordinate with neighbours and building management

Notify neighbours and building management of maintenance or installation dates in advance, especially if there will be noise or temporary disruption.

  3. 3

Gather department and medical requirements info

Send a list of each department with its medical specs (required temperature, humidity, air changes) before the visit to speed assessment.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

Our small clinic is in an older residential building; what do you recommend for cooling?

For small clinics in older buildings, we typically choose individual split units per department or room, since they are easier to install and maintain and do not need major structural changes.

The outdoor unit for our hospital will disturb the neighbours; how do you handle noise?

We choose low-noise units and install sound barriers around them if needed, coordinate timings with neighbours, and avoid running outside reasonable medical operating hours.

Our hospital plans to expand its departments; can the current system be expanded?

We inspect the existing system first to assess its spare capacity and limits. If it was designed with headroom, it can be expanded; otherwise we recommend an upgrade or additional unit.

Multiple specialities in one building; how do you ensure thermal separation between departments?

We design supply and return ducts separately for each department so each control unit maintains independent temperature and humidity, with high-efficiency filters in each branch.
