When you need a medical HVAC specialist

  1. 1

    Hospital or clinic under construction

The right design starts before any duct is installed, because ventilation and filtration needs differ from the surgical suite to the waiting area. An early survey saves costly alterations after the building is finished.

  2. 2

Departments reporting warm air or odours

In an existing medical building, weak cooling in one department or odours crossing into an adjacent area signals an imbalance in the air distribution or extraction system. Finding the cause needs measurement, not guesswork.

  3. 3

Maintenance contract for a running facility

A hospital does not close for equipment servicing. We schedule preventive maintenance visits department by department, coordinated with facility management, and carry out repairs with the smallest possible effect on daily operations.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Survey and requirements

We visit the facility, map the heat loads and air requirements for each department, and agree the duct routes before any design work begins.

  2. 2

    Design and supply

We design the duct network and fabricate it in our own workshop to SMACNA specifications, and supply units from our authorised brands: Carrier, YORK, General, Midea, Gree and Smart Gold.

  3. 3

    Phased coordinated installation

In operating buildings we work with management to phase the installation so adjacent departments stay open, and control dust and noise away from patient areas.

  4. 4

    Commissioning and follow-up

We commission the systems, measure airflow in each department, and adjust the dampers until the design requirements are met, then hand over the facility with a maintenance plan.

Ductwork, rooftop units and diffusers, from work we've completed in Jeddah.

  • Galvanized rectangular duct trunk with branch takeoffs and round diffusers, hung from a black ceiling, a Carrier unit visible behind — interior finishing stage.
  • Round diffusers and a spiral duct trunk in a tiled stairwell service shaft.
  • Rooftop ductwork and an exhaust fan, with Jeddah buildings in the background.
  • Rooftop packaged AC units with rectangular duct transitions, city buildings behind.
  • Insulated rooftop duct run beside a packaged unit, a warehouse roof in the background.

What sets this district apart

Tabah's hospitals are relatively modern and expansive, requiring central AC systems distributed across multiple departments via long ductwork and powerful compressors. Each department has different climate needs: operating theatres need tight temperature and humidity control, intensive care needs steady airflow, and administrative areas may accept less stringent conditions. Regular maintenance and rapid repairs are essential to shield patients and staff from any disruption.

Tabah is in north Jeddah, a modern zone hosting specialist hospitals, clinics and their medical facilities.

Hospitals here rely on central AC systems with extended ductwork and multiple compressors to cover departments with varying needs.

The AC setup in Tabah

  1. 1

Central system distributed across multiple departments

Modern hospitals in Tabah use powerful compressors and extended air ducts serving operating theatres, intensive care, clinics and administration from a single central unit.

  2. 2

Backup units and independent control for each zone

Critical departments like operating theatres and intensive care may benefit from small backup units and separate thermostatic control to ensure stability during any failure.

  3. 3

High-efficiency filters for indoor air purity

Multi-stage filtration traps pollutants, particles and excess moisture, essential for theatres and intensive care given the hospital's proximity to busy roads.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Tabah

  1. 1

    Coordinate timing with hospital management

Contact maintenance or administration beforehand to find the best visit time that avoids clash with ongoing surgeries or critical operations.

  2. 2

Identify outdoor units and compressor locations

Make sure our team knows the locations of all compressors and outdoor units on the hospital roof or grounds, and confirm safe access to them.

  3. 3

Prepare a layout of ductwork and departments

If possible, provide our team with a map showing air duct routes, different departments and sensitive areas like operating theatres and intensive care to speed up assessment.

FAQ

Questions about Hospital HVAC

How do ventilation needs differ across hospital departments?

Ventilation needs vary from one department to the next based on the activity in each area and the requirements set by the facility's designer and the site survey. Operating theatres need highly filtered, directionally controlled air, while patient rooms, corridors and administrative areas each carry different requirements. We build the duct network and select units from the facility's drawings and its specific requirements, not from general assumptions.

Can systems be maintained without stopping sensitive departments?

Yes, but it requires careful planning before the maintenance date. We agree with facility management on a schedule that names the section and the right time window, then isolate the target section using dampers and blanking plates without affecting adjacent departments. Corrective tasks such as replacing a capacitor or repairing a flare joint are carried out within the agreed time window.

What governs duct network design in a medical building?

Design is governed by the approved facility drawings and each department's requirements as defined by the site survey and the specialist designer. We fabricate ducts in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to project dimensions, and use Kimmco and Armaflex insulation with Foster sealants to control leakage. Distribution and pressure in each section follow the specifications drawn for that department individually.

Do you work with small clinics or only hospitals?

We work with medical facilities of all sizes, from a clinic in a residential district to a multi-storey medical complex. The size of the facility does not change the principle: the site survey is the starting point, and from it we determine unit types, duct dimensions and fresh-air requirements for each zone. Preventive and corrective maintenance contracts are available for clinics and hospitals alike.

How do you maintain the system without shutting down departments?

We schedule routine maintenance during low-activity periods and deploy temporary backup units if needed. We work with hospital management to identify the best intervention windows without impacting critical operations.

Different departments need different temperature conditions, how do you handle that?

We design separate air distribution for each cluster of departments, with independent monitoring and thermostats for each zone. Operating theatres and intensive care get precise temperature and humidity control, while corridors and administrative areas get comfortable but less stringent levels.

The hospital is near busy roads, is the outdoor air clean enough for operating theatres?

Tabah has traffic-related air pollution, so we fit high-efficiency filters in the ventilation systems for theatres and intensive care to trap particles, moisture and contaminants.

How often do you clean the central ductwork in the hospital?

We agree a suitable cleaning schedule with hospital management based on each department's usage and visible contaminants. Operating theatres and intensive care need more frequent cleaning than other areas to ensure indoor air purity.
