Retail cooling without downtime
Mall & retail HVAC in Al Sharafiyah
In Al Sharafiyah, central Jeddah's malls and shops need air conditioning that adjusts to shifting customer flow and heat throughout the day. Alrabih designs and installs systems built to handle high loads while keeping stock dry.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist
- 1
A new mall or shopping centre
A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.
- 2
An existing shop with uneven cooling
The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.
- 3
Condensate dripping on shelves or display
A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.
Who it's for
Opening a new shop inside a mall
We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.
Ask on WhatsAppManaging an existing commercial complex
We review the existing system and set a preventive and corrective maintenance contract scheduled outside trading hours so tenants are not affected.

- Maintenance contracts off peak
How we work
How we work
- 1
Site survey and loads
We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.
- 2
Design and materials
We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.
- 3
Installation coordinated on site
We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.
- 4
Start-up and maintenance contract
We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.
Designed for the space or just fitted?
| Alrabih | The usual way | |
|---|---|---|
| Air distribution | Load study per zone | One unit for the whole space |
| Ductwork | G90 sheet, sized for the job | Off-the-shelf wrong size |
| Condensate | Dedicated line away from stock | Risk of drips on shelves |
| Maintenance | Scheduled outside shop hours | Surprise outage during trade |
| Copper purity | Mueller copper, 99% pure, no welds | Unspecified pipe source |

What sets this district apart
Al Sharafiyah is a central commercial zone with mid-sized malls and modern commercial blocks, some with residential flats above, set along wide streets with large shop frontages. Shops open directly onto the pavement, so heat enters quickly and cooling demand peaks during trading hours. Central or multi-unit split systems work efficiently here, but need regular maintenance timed around shop closures.
Al Sharafiyah sits in central Jeddah, a modern commercial zone of wide frontages and mid-rise buildings along main roads.
Most malls and retail shops here run central or multi-unit split systems due to the large floor areas and high heat loads.
The AC setup in Al Sharafiyah
- 1
Central AC system for a multi-floor mall
Larger malls in Al Sharafiyah benefit from a unified central system distributing cold air across all floors and main corridors.
- 2
Multi-indoor split units with one central controller
Leased shops and commercial blocks use several indoor units fed from one outdoor compressor, giving flexible control over each section.
- 3
Humidity control and enhanced drainage units
Given the customer and stock density, we install enhanced drainage runs to prevent moisture and water pooling on the shop floor.
Before the visit
Before our visit in Al Sharafiyah
- 1
Agree on maintenance timing outside trading hours
Tell us when the shop closes or has low footfall so we can schedule the team at the right time without disrupting sales.
- 2
Clarify outdoor unit location and indoor layout
Share the layout of aisles, storage, and ceiling runs so we understand the airflow path and outdoor unit placement before arrival.
- 3
Ensure roof or ceiling void is accessible
If the system has ductwork in the ceiling void, make sure the team can reach it safely and that any access door or hatch is unlocked.

FAQ
Questions about Mall & retail HVAC
How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?
An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.
Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?
Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.
Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?
A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.
How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?
Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.
Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?
The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.
How do your systems handle constant door opening in a retail shop?
We install systems with higher cooling capacity than standard to compensate for cold air loss from frequent door openings, using strong filters to keep dust out.
My shop is in a tight corner, can you place the outdoor unit safely?
We choose a safe spot for the outdoor unit based on available space, prevailing winds, and distance from the entrance, coordinating with you before the site visit.
Moisture from the AC seems to affect my stock, how do you prevent it?
We install a proper drain pan with sloped pipes running downwards, and clean the drains regularly as part of scheduled maintenance to prevent moisture buildup.
When can you service the AC without disrupting customer flow?
We agree on a maintenance schedule outside trading hours, usually early morning or after closing, keeping units running during the visit where possible.
