Retail cooling without downtime
Mall & retail HVAC in Al Surur
In Al Surur, south Jeddah, retail shops and centres face intense heat from their inland location away from sea breezes and daily swings in footfall and door openings. Alrabih designs cooling systems that manage those changes and keep customers comfortable without stopping trade.

When you need a retail HVAC specialist
- 1
A new mall or shopping centre
A poor design from the start means cold zones next to stifling ones and endless tenant complaints. We study the heat load of each zone separately and choose the right unit type before the ceiling is built.
- 2
An existing shop with uneven cooling
The back of the shop is cold while the front near the door stays hot at peak hours. The cause is usually the air outlet layout or the unit size; a site survey identifies which and fixes the problem without replacing the whole system.
- 3
Condensate dripping on shelves or display
A single drip on stock or a glass display front damages the product and the shop's image. The cause is usually weak insulation, a blocked condensate line or an unlevel unit, all of which can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit.
Who it's for
Opening a new shop inside a mall
We design an independent unit for your space and install ductwork and condensate lines before finishing work so your opening is not delayed.
Ask on WhatsAppManaging an existing commercial complex
We review the existing system and set a preventive and corrective maintenance contract scheduled outside trading hours so tenants are not affected.

How we work
How we work
- 1
Site survey and loads
We visit the site and map every heat source: entrances, lighting, expected crowd density and facade orientation, then size the units correctly for each section.
- 2
Design and materials
We design the duct network in our own workshop from G90 galvanised sheet to dimensions that give even air distribution, and select units from brands we distribute such as Carrier, YORK and Gree.
- 3
Installation coordinated on site
We coordinate installation with the project programme so ductwork does not delay finishing trades, and run Mueller copper in runs of up to 30 metres without welded joints to reduce potential leak points.
- 4
Start-up and maintenance contract
We start up the system and check air distribution in every section, then set a preventive and corrective maintenance schedule timed so work never overlaps with the shop's trading hours.
Designed for the space or just fitted?
| Alrabih | The usual way | |

| Condensate | Dedicated line away from stock | Risk of drips on shelves |
| Maintenance | Scheduled outside shop hours | Surprise outage during trade |
| Copper purity | Mueller copper, 99% pure, no welds | Unspecified pipe source |

What sets this district apart
Al Surur sits inland, away from sea effects, so heat is harsh and dry all year. Retail shops and centres need very strong AC systems because the heat load is high from direct sun, open doors and variable crowds. Choosing very high-efficiency units and good thermal insulation is essential, and timing maintenance so trading does not stop at peak hours is critical because shops here rely on long trading windows.
Al Surur is inland in south Jeddah, a commercial zone exposed to harsh, dry heat far from sea influence.
Shops and centres in Al Surur use high-efficiency AC, mostly multiple splits or central systems with large cooling capacity.
The AC setup in Al Surur
- 1
High-capacity split units per shop
Independent shops and small clusters here need very high-capacity splits to handle the heavy heat load from intense dry conditions.
- 2
Central system with balanced distribution
Large shopping centres use a unified central system with very strong outdoor units and balanced air distribution across all sections.
- 3
Auxiliary cooling during peak hours
Some centres install auxiliary or 'boost' coolers that run only during peak hours to ease the load on the main system.
Before the visit
Before our visit in Al Surur
- 1
Focus on thermal insulation
Before installation, check the quality of insulation on roof, walls and windows. You may need to improve insulation before fitting the new AC so it runs efficiently.
- 2
Tell us about peak and quiet hours
So we can size a system that handles peak hours, tell us when the shop is busy with customers and when it is quiet.
- 3
Confirm electrical circuit capacity
A strong system needs heavy electrical capacity. Make sure your shop's electrical connection can handle the load, and you may need to upgrade the circuit before install.

FAQ
Questions about Mall & retail HVAC
How do you handle doors that open onto the street all day?
An open door pushes in hot humid air and spikes the heat load suddenly. We include that load in the design and direct a supply outlet above the entrance to form an air barrier that reduces mixing. The survey confirms which arrangement suits each specific doorway.
Do you install separate units for each mall tenant?
Yes. A separate unit per tenant means each shop controls its own cooling and a fault in one unit does not affect the neighbour. It also makes consumption readings straightforward and makes maintenance responsibility clear for each party.
Why do you prefer rooftop packaged units for malls?
A rooftop packaged unit keeps the condenser and evaporator in one casing above the roof, freeing every inch of shop floor from outdoor units and shortening the duct run. Maintenance happens on the roof without entering the shop, which fits scheduling work outside trading hours.
How do you handle Jeddah's heat and its effect on rooftop units?
Rooftop units in Jeddah work in hot, salty and dusty air that strains the condenser and speeds fin corrosion. We specify units with corrosion-resistant coatings and include coil cleaning and compressor and condenser checks in the preventive schedule of every maintenance contract.
Does air distribution design differ between a small shop and a large mall?
The site survey decides. A small shop may need only a concealed unit with directional grilles, while a mall requires a duct network with dampers zoned by area. In both cases the positions of lighting, visitor traffic and entry doors are recorded before supply outlets are placed.
The heat is severe here and the shop is open all day, what can we do?
We recommend strong thermal insulation on roofs, walls and windows, plus very high cooling-capacity split or central units, with a smart thermostat that automatically adjusts temperature.
The shop shares the centre with others, does a neighbour raising temperature affect my cooling?
If the system is centrally unified, there is some effect. So we recommend separate split units per shop or dampers in the ducts to isolate each section.
The heat drives electricity costs high, how do we cut the bill?
We pick units with very high energy efficiency, advise running the AC a touch lighter during slow sales hours, and clean filters regularly so units perform at their best.
Does the dryness cause problems for the AC or stock?
Dryness reduces humidity and mould risk, but can cause static in some goods. Balanced ventilation and regular filter cleaning keep air quality good inside the shop.
