When a window unit is the right choice

  1. 1

A room with no outdoor unit space

Some rooms have no wall facing a suitable space for an outdoor unit. A window AC is the practical answer: one unit in the opening cools the room and expels heat directly outside.

  2. 2

An annex, staff housing or storeroom

Annexes, staff rooms and warehouses need real cooling without the cost of long copper and cable runs. A window unit suits these spaces well when the right opening exists or can be made.

  3. 3

An existing window of the right size

When a wall already has a window opening that matches the unit you have chosen, the frame fits straight in without cutting new concrete. We confirm at the survey that the opening suits the unit and the wall carries the load.

Who it's for

  • Need to cool a maid's room or home annex

We survey the opening or proposed wall in the annex, fit the unit in a secure frame and seal every gap so no hot humid air enters the space.

How we work

How we work

  1. 1

    Send a photo

WhatsApp us a photo of the opening or the proposed wall and your district, so the technician arrives with the right frame and fixings.

  2. 2

    Site survey

On site the technician measures the opening, checks the wall, confirms there is a suitable power point near the unit, and agrees with you on any changes needed before starting.

  3. 3

    Fit and seal

We fit the frame level, set the unit with the correct outward tilt, then seal every gap around the frame so no hot air, dust or humidity enters.

  4. 4

    Start-up and handover

We run the unit, check the cooling and confirm condensate flows outward, then leave the space clean and show you how to clean the filter.

What sets this district apart

Al Khumrah is a mixed residential and commercial district of relatively low-rise villas, small buildings and shops with small trading centres. The area faces strong seasonal winds from the Gulf, and summer heat is extreme, meaning window units need very firm fixing to resist wind movement and prevent the unit falling. A very tight seal is essential because strong winds may drive hot air and dust around the frame, and regular servicing keeps cooling effective in extreme heat. Coordinating with residents or shop owners is important because the work may take time.

Al Khumrah lies in south Jeddah, a district of mixed low-rise villas and small buildings with moderate commercial activity and seasonal wind exposure.

Most villas and shops have modern standard windows, but seasonal winds make extra fixing more necessary than in other areas.

The AC setup in Al Khumrah

  1. 1

Window unit with strong wind-resistant fixing

We fix the unit very firmly with extra metal bolts and shims to resist strong seasonal winds.

  2. 2

    Salt and dust-resistant insulation pads

We use strong salt and dust-resistant insulation around the frame because winds carry both from the sea and sandy areas.

  3. 3

Tight seal to block hot air and dust entry

A very tight seal around the unit is essential here because seasonal winds press any gap to drive hot air and dust in from outside.

Before the visit

Before our visit in Al Khumrah

  1. 1

Check room for strong fixing around the window

Make sure the frame and wall around the window are strong enough to take extra bolts and shims, and tell us of any weakness.

  2. 2

Confirm the indoor and outdoor window spaces are safe

Check that the indoor and outdoor spaces around the window are safe to work in and clear of debris or falling objects.

  3. 3

Coordinate with villa or shop occupant on timing

Tell villa residents or the shop owner about the visit time in advance, especially in summer when this unit may be the only cooling for that room.

FAQ

Questions about Window AC installation

Can you cut a new opening in the wall if there is none?

Yes, if no suitable opening exists we can cut one. At the survey we check the wall type and thickness and look for columns or cables that might be in the way, then agree the best position with you before any cutting begins.

Why does the outward tilt matter on a window unit?

A window unit produces condensate on its indoor side throughout operation. If the unit sits level or tilts inward, water pools in the base and runs down the inside wall. A slight outward tilt sends that water to the back of the unit and out, away from the wall and furniture.

How do you seal the gaps around the frame given Jeddah's climate?

Jeddah combines high heat, humidity and salty sea air, so sealing materials must hold up in those conditions. We use insulating and sealing materials suited to the opening and wall type, and the survey determines the right choice based on the gap size and wall construction.

Does a window unit need its own power point?

A window unit draws a high current at start-up, and sharing a socket with other appliances strains the wiring and trips the breaker. The technician checks at the survey that a suitable socket is close to the unit position, and if one is not there we explain what is needed before installation proceeds.

Does the weight of a window unit affect how it is fixed?

Yes, the unit's weight directly affects how the frame is fixed and what support is needed. A concrete wall requires different treatment from a brick wall, and a wide opening needs more support than a narrow one. The technician decides at the survey what fixing method and materials suit the unit and the wall.

The seasonal winds here are very strong, do they affect the window unit?

Strong winds press on the unit and frame. We ensure very firm fixing with extra bolts and brackets, and a tight seal stops winds from driving hot air and dust around the frame.

Temperatures here reach extreme levels, does the unit lose efficiency?

At extreme heat, a window unit's efficiency dips slightly, but good ventilation around the outdoor part and a tight seal maintain cooling. We ensure cold air inside is not blocked by heavy curtains.

I am worried the unit will fall in strong winds, how do you protect it?

Fixing is very firm using steel bolts and wind-resistant metal shims. We test the fixings after installation and agree with you on a maintenance schedule that includes checking bolts each season.

Dust and salt are more of a problem here with the winds, yes?

Yes, winds carry dust and salt fast. We use strong insulation pads and salt-resistant materials around the frame, and tight sealing blocks dust entry. Monthly servicing cleans filters and maintains efficiency.
